Episode Summary
Eighty percent of the world is born with a superpower, and being a hero has become a profession. Izuku Midoriya is one of the twenty percent without a Quirk, and everyone — his childhood friend Katsuki, his teacher, even the doctor — tells him a hero is out of reach. Then a sludge villain grabs him, All Might saves him, and Izuku finally gets to ask the only question that matters.

🔥 Must-Know Expressions
10 expressions |

- You don't stand a chance without a Quirk.
- We don't stand a chance against them.
stand a chance of ~ing / against ~ と相手や中身を足せます。
- These guys'll be lucky to end up as sidekicks.
- We ended up staying an extra night.
うしろは動詞ing・形容詞・as + 名詞(× end up to be)。
- I aced all of the mock tests.
- She aced the interview.
- I could pass out some career aptitude tests, but, why bother?
- Why bother? No one reads it.
Why do it? Why bother ~ing?
- Don't lump me in with this buncha losers.
- Don't lump us in with the beginners.
compare が比べるのに対し、lump ~ in with … in も with も落とさない(lump A in with B)。
06
You've got it all wrong.
- No, wait! You've got it all wrong!
- You've got it all wrong — I never said that.
That's not true. You've got it all wrong. You've got it wrong.——部分的な訂正になります。
- Don't tell me you're taking notes on how to be a hero?
- I took notes on everything she said.
on のうしろが話題で(take notes on the lecture)、a note(単数)は「短い書き置き」——別物です。
- I'm the real deal.
- Her voice is the real deal.
- I may not have a Quirk, but I can still try my hardest, can't I?
- I tried my hardest and that's that.
do one's best
- That's enough, give it back.
- Give it back — that's mine.
名詞なら前後どちらでもよい(give the pen back / give back the pen)。

🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
PATTERN 1
There's no way + 主語 + 動詞(〜なんてありえない)
There's no way you're getting into the hero course without a Quirk!
You can't ~ が能力の否定なのに対し、There's no way ~ は「可能性そのものがない」——あきれが乗るのが違い。 No way!
- There's no way we'll finish today.(今日中に終わるわけがない)
- There's no way he knew.(彼が知っていたはずがない)
PATTERN 2
No matter what anyone else thinks, I have to believe in myself.
what のうしろは主語+動詞で、No matter what. how / who / where にも差し替えられます。
- No matter what happens, call me.(何があっても連絡して)
- No matter what they say, I'm going.(何と言われようと私は行く)
PATTERN 3
I wish I had ~(〜
I wish I had a Quirk that made me super strong.
現在のことなのに動詞は過去形(× I wish I have)。 I wish I had had ~ ともう一段ずらします。
- I wish I had more time.(もっと時間があればなあ)
- I wish I had known.(知っていればよかった)
🎯 Today's Phrase
Native daily-use phrase
★ TODAY'S PHRASE
stand a chance
- We don't stand a chance against them.
- Do we stand a chance of finishing today?
- With her on the team, we stand a chance.
Without a lawyer, you don't stand a chance.(弁護士なしでは勝ち目がない)のように使えます。
