Episode Summary

Kanata wakes without his right arm and refuses to let the crew punish Charce: if they cannot trust each other after all this, nothing they have been through means anything. While the team restocks on Planet Galem, Charce finally tells them the secrets of Astra — humanity's exodus from a doomed Earth, the wormhole network that made it possible, the war that followed, and the calendar quietly wound back a hundred years to make the lie fit. Knowing their originals will come for them, the crew decide to send a message ahead to Kanata's mother and the one police officer they can trust.

🔥 Must-Know Expressions 10 expressions |

01

come to a head

  • The impending exodus served as a trigger to make all of humanity's conflicts come to a head.
  • The dispute finally came to a head last week.

02

be doomed to ~

  • Doomed to repeat itself.
  • The plan was doomed to fail from the start.

to のうしろは動詞の原形が基本ですが、be doomed to failure と名詞も来ます。

03

win out

  • That desire won out.
  • In the end, common sense won out.

(Fear won out over reason.)。

04

line up

  • Resetting civilization and the recovery from the war would line up nicely.
  • The dates don't line up.

05

be granted ~

  • As a reward for their contribution to world peace, they were granted high status as rulers.
  • She was granted permission to enter.

06

be passed down

  • The information has been passed down the royal line from one king to the next.
  • The recipe was passed down through the family.

07

prohibit ~ from ~ing

  • The first generation prohibited the truth from getting out.
  • The rules prohibit staff from accepting gifts.

from を落とせません(× prohibit them to speak)。

08

be tasked with ~ing

  • There's a division in the government tasked with keeping the secrets hidden.
  • She was tasked with rewriting the manual.

be told to ~ が指示なのに対し、be tasked with ~ing は職掌として背負う——続く仕事なのが違い。with のうしろは名詞か動詞ing(× tasked with to keep)。

09

a different matter

  • Silencing the general population was a different matter.
  • Fixing it is one thing; paying for it is a different matter.

That's different. quite a different matter A is one thing, B is another

10

be dubbed ~

  • The planet, which was 5,000 light years away, was dubbed Astra.
  • The bridge was dubbed 'the gateway to the north'.

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

The world was all but destroyed.

PATTERN 2

prove (to be) + 補語(〜だと分かる)

I imagine revising history proved to be a rather difficult project.

to be は落とせます(The method proved effective.)。

PATTERN 3

It took + 期間 + for A + to + 原形(Aが〜するのに…

It took the next four years for humanity to complete its emigration.

for A は省けます(It took three days to fix it.)。

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

come to a head

Things came to a head when he resigned.(彼が辞めたことで事態は一気に表面化した)のように「いつ」を添えて使うのが自然です。bring ~ to a head
