Episode Summary

Team B-5 lands on Vilavurs to gather twenty days of food and water. The forest turns out to be a playground, and the group spends more time bouncing on a tree than foraging. When Quitterie storms off and Funicia is carried away by a flying creature, Kanata makes a jump no one thought possible — and afterwards tries to hand the captaincy to Charce. Then Zack reports that the communicator was cut open on purpose.

out of the blue

  • She was handed a new sister out of the blue.
  • He called me out of the blue last night.

the blue は「青空」でa を付けない(× out of a blue)。連絡・知らせ・申し出と相性がよく、a bolt from the blue なら「青天の霹靂」。

02

be raised by ~

  • Her entire life she's been raised by caretakers.
  • He was raised by his grandparents.

人が主語なら raise、植物や自分が育つなら grow(× I was grown by ~)。be raised in Osaka

03

take over for ~

  • I'm here to take over for my teacher.
  • Could you take over for me after lunch?

04

force one's dream onto ~

  • He was forcing his dream onto me and I wanted out.
  • Don't force your dream onto your kids.

  • Perhaps I can be your second in command.

  • We got caught up in something bigger and scarier than we originally thought.

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

It's no wonder (that) + 主語 + 動詞(どうりで〜なわけだ)

It's no wonder he displays such advanced agility.

That's why ~ が理由を指すのに対し、It's no wonder ~ は「驚くにあたらない」——納得した瞬間が乗るのが違い。

PATTERN 2

Not many people can make and execute critical decisions without hesitation.

主語なので語順はそのまま——倒置は起きません(× Not many people can they ~)。

PATTERN 3

no matter how much + 主語 + 動詞(どれだけ〜しても)

You don't know what you don't know, no matter how much you think about stuff.

how のうしろに much / hard / long / often を差し替えられ、however much ~ と書けば硬い文章向き。

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

out of the blue

An old friend messaged me out of the blue.(昔の友達から、突然連絡が来た)のように使えます。the blue は「青空」——a を付けないのが決まりです(× out of a blue)。
