Episode Summary

Team B-5 lands on Vilavurs to gather twenty days of food and water. The forest turns out to be a playground, and the group spends more time bouncing on a tree than foraging. When Quitterie storms off and Funicia is carried away by a flying creature, Kanata makes a jump no one thought possible — and afterwards tries to hand the captaincy to Charce. Then Zack reports that the communicator was cut open on purpose.

🔥 Must-Know Expressions 10 expressions |

01

so much for ~

  • Sheesh, so much for Mister-Know-It-All, huh?
  • So much for the early start.

That didn't work.

02

slack off

  • Yes, but we shouldn't slack off too much.
  • He started slacking off in the second half.

03

pig out

  • Was the silence really so awkward that you had to start pigging out?
  • We pigged out on pizza last night.

on を足すと対象が付きます(pig out on chips)。

04

mess around

  • What's the deal? Stop messing around.
  • Quit messing around and get in the car.

05

a ton of ~

  • You should come up here, Quitterie! It's a ton of fun!
  • There's a ton of work left.

a lot of ~ が中立なのに対し、a ton of ~ はくだけて誇張——勢いが乗るのが違い。数えられる名詞にも、数えられない名詞にも使えます(a ton of people / a ton of fun)。

06

get rid of ~

  • If you wanna do something useful, then get rid of the stupid Tur-gons!
  • I finally got rid of that old sofa.

💡 rid は取り除く——get rid of で「いなくする」。 of を落とさない(× get rid it)。be rid of ~ なら「もう無い状態だ」。

07

Don't move an inch.

  • Funicia! Don't move an inch!
  • Don't move an inch — I'll come to you.

Stay there. an inch は否定文で「少しも」——He wouldn't budge an inch.(一歩も譲らなかった)のようにも使えます。

08

look up to ~

  • It's nice having a pretty big sister that I can look up to!
  • I've always looked up to my aunt.

look down on ~ が反対で「見下す」——on と to を取り違えないように。

09

Roger that.

  • Roger that. We're on it!
  • Roger that — heading over now.

Roger.

10

That could have gone better.

  • Awkward. That could have gone better.
  • Well. That could have gone better.

That was bad. That could have gone better. (How did it go?)、could have + 過去分詞で「〜でありえたのに」。

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

Crap! It's as big as a dragon!

bigger than ~ が差を言うのに対し、as ~ as … 否定文 not as ~ as …

PATTERN 2

That's the first time + 主語 + have ever + 過去分詞(〜したのは初めてだね)

Wow, that was super impressive! That's the first time you've ever sounded knowledgeable!

You've never done that. That's the first time ~ は「今がその一回目」——目の前で起きたのが違い。have ever + 過去分詞とever を入れるのが自然で、主節は現在形 That'sのまま(× That was the first time you've ~ は過去の話になります)。

PATTERN 3

Most mushrooms will probably be poisonous as well, so it's best if we skip those.

if 節は現在形で未来形にしない(× if we will skip)。

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

so much for ~

That didn't work. So much for finishing by five.(五時までに終わらせるって話は、どこへやら)のように使えます。
