🔥 Must-Know Expressions
10 expressions |
- I'm not the kind of person who would give up on a friend.
- Don't give up on this project yet.
Don't give up on me.
- Hey, just put the gun down.
- Put that down before you drop it.
- You at least owe me that much!
- I owe you an explanation.
owe + 人 + ものの語順(owe me an apology)。I owe you one.
- At this rate your arm's gonna give out!
- At this rate we'll miss the train.
- No, my abs and arms are killing me!
- These shoes are killing me.
You're killing me.
- You hold onto it.
- Hold onto the receipt just in case.
Hold on!
- Using his guilt to pick on him.
- Stop picking on your brother.
Why are you picking on me?
- So as long as we bandage it, you should heal right up.
- It'll heal right up in a few days.
- We're counting on you.
- You can count on me.
You can count on me.
- Um. Can we leave them out of this?
- Leave my family out of this.
don't tell ~ が知らせないのに対し、leave ~ out of this は「関わらせない」——もめごとが前提なのが違い。 leave me out of it

🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
PATTERN 1
Whenever +
Whenever I'm feeling down, I come here and shout my lungs out.
うしろは現在形で、未来形にはしません(× whenever I will feel down)。
- Whenever I'm in Kyoto, I visit that shop.(京都に行くたびにあの店へ寄ります)
- Whenever he calls, it's bad news.(彼が電話してくるときは決まって悪い知らせだ)
PATTERN 2
Make sure you get Quitterie to check it out later, okay?
get だけ to が必要で、make / let / have は原形のまま。
- I'll get him to call you back.(折り返し電話させます)
- Can you get someone to check this?(誰かにこれを見てもらえますか)
PATTERN 3
I shouldn't have grabbed your hand without asking.
I didn't do it が事実なのに対し、shouldn't have + 過去分詞 は「やってしまった」——実際にはしたのが前提なのが違い。
- I shouldn't have said that.(あんなこと言うべきじゃなかった)
- You shouldn't have waited so long.(そんなに待つ必要はなかったのに)
🎯 Today's Phrase
Native daily-use phrase
★ TODAY'S PHRASE
give up on ~
- Don't give up on this project yet.
- I never gave up on him.
- She's given up on finding it.
Don't give up on me.(私を見捨てないで)は、Don't leave me. on のうしろは人でも計画でも夢でも可(give up on the idea / on my dream)。
