Episode Summary

The woman in the pod wakes: Polina Livinskaya, an astronaut from the Ark Six, stranded on Icriss for twelve years. Her ship's reactor is intact while the Astra's living quarters are, so the crew joins the two ships together. Zack and Quitterie argue about their dreams and end up engaged. Before leaving, the crew escorts Polina to the site where her crew vanished and recovers an ID tag. On the way out, a blood-type mismatch leads Quitterie to run a DNA test on herself and Funicia.

🔥 Must-Know Expressions 10 expressions |

01

try not to ~

  • Try not to push yourself too much.
  • Try not to worry about it.

02

make it past ~

  • To be honest, I wasn't sure we'd make it past this barrier.
  • We barely made it past the first round.

make it は「たどり着く」が芯なので、make it to ~ / make it through ~ と前置詞で行き先を変えられます。

03

be back in action

  • Thanks to the efforts of the Astra's pilot, Zack Walker, and our new friend, Polina, the ship's officially back in action!
  • He's back in action after the injury.

04

get the feeling (that) ~

  • Sometimes I get the feeling you don't like your father that much.
  • I get the feeling she's hiding something.

05

have ~ in mind

  • And, I already have a captain in mind.
  • Do you have a date in mind?

I'm thinking about ~ が思案中なのに対し、have ~ in mind はもう決まりかけている——言わずに持っているのが違い。What did you have in mind?(何かお考えでも?)

06

as good as new

  • Ah, my anti-gravity shoes are as good as new!
  • One wash and it's as good as new.

as good as + 形容詞は「ほとんど〜も同然」という枠で、as good as done(もう終わったも同然)と応用できます。

07

keep pushing forward

  • We just have to keep pushing forward.
  • All we can do is keep pushing forward.

keep + 動詞ing の形なので、push on / press on と入れ替えても通じます。

08

be upset with oneself

  • Honestly, I was upset with myself for crashing our ship.
  • She was upset with herself for forgetting.

be upset about ~ が出来事に動揺するのに対し、be upset with ~ は相手を責める——with のうしろが人なのが違い。

09

make it sound like ~

  • Makes it sound like we found a bike in an empty lot, huh?
  • You make it sound like it was easy.

That's not true が中身を否定するのに対し、make it sound like ~ は言い方のほうを問う——事実は認めているのが違い。

10

come true

  • Maybe one day, my real dream will come true.
  • It felt like a dream come true.

受け身にはしません(× be come true)。a dream come true

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

How many years do you think it's going to take you?

Do you think how many years ~? Do you know ~? think のうしろは平叙文の語順(× do you think is it)。

PATTERN 2

What do you mean by ~?(〜ってどういうこと?)

What did you mean by all that?

I don't understand What do you mean by ~? by のうしろは名詞(by that / by all this / by "soon")。

PATTERN 3

Pretty sure +

Pretty sure you gave up right after we crashed.

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

try not to ~

Try not to push yourself too much.(あまり無理しないで)のように使えます。 I'm trying not to ~ なら「〜しないように気をつけている最中だ」と言えます。
