Episode Summary

The DNA test says Quitterie and Funicia are the same person, and Charce draws the conclusion that binds the whole crew together: every one of them is a clone, grown so that their 'originals' could one day move into a younger body. Far away, those originals meet and speak openly about the plot. One by one the crew work through what it means, and Zack and Quitterie's engagement lightens the mood. Then the repaired telescope finds their destination — and Polina insists the blue planet on the screen is not Earth.

01

How are you holding up?

  • Incidentally, how are you holding up?
  • How are you holding up after the move?

How are you? How are you holding up? hold up は「もちこたえる」で、物にも使えます(The roof held up.)。

02

deserve to ~

  • I deserve to pursue my own dreams!
  • You deserve to be happy.

よいことにも悪いことにも使え(deserve to win / deserve to lose)、うしろは名詞でも可(deserve a break)。

03

  • But to do it well and protect my crew, I need to be in peak condition.

  • Stop making such a huge deal out of this!
  • Don't make a huge deal out of one mistake.

worry about ~ が心配するのに対し、make a deal out of ~ は周りを巻き込む——騒ぎにしているのが違い。big / huge / such a を挟んで強められ、It's not a big deal.(たいしたことじゃない)と対で覚えられます。

take ~ by surprise

  • I might not look that way, but I'm getting over it.
  • It took me a month to get over the flu.

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

Even if I am a clone of someone else, my mom will always be my mom.

PATTERN 2

Who would've thought (that) + 主語 + 動詞?(〜だなんて誰が思っただろう)

Who would've thought you were all clones?

I was surprised が自分の状態を言うのに対し、Who would've thought ~? Who would've thought?

PATTERN 3

Until now, I've been living my life the way my mom wanted me to.

how を重ねてはいけません(× the way how)。I like the way you think.(その考え方、いいね)は覚えておくと便利な一文です。

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

How are you holding up?

How are you? How are you holding up? I heard about your father. How are you holding up? I'm hanging in there.(なんとかやってるよ)が定番。 The tent held up in the storm.(テントは嵐にもちこたえた)のように言えます。
