表現get hairy(状況が)やばくなる

表現take the reins手綱を握る・主導権をとる

💡 reins は「手綱」。take the reins で「指揮をとる」。better one's chances(勝算を高める)も覚えたい表現です。

The least you could do is ~ は「最低でも〜くらいはしてもいい」。相手に最低限を求める型です。
