01

Doesn't hurt to try.

  • Doesn't hurt to try.
  • Doesn't hurt to try — the worst they can say is no.

💡 It doesn't hurt to ~It を落とした形。

02

Nothing good can come of this.

  • Nothing good can come of this.
  • Nothing good can come of this — let's stop here.

03

I just had a brilliant idea.

  • I just had a brilliant idea.
  • I just had a brilliant idea — let's move the meeting outside.

💡 have an idea思いつくthink of an idea より自然で、ふっと浮かんだ感じが出ます。

04

It's the oldest trick in the book.

  • it's the oldest trick in the book
  • Pretending to be busy? It's the oldest trick in the book.

05

Now don't be silly.

  • Now don't be silly.

  • I was worried about you.
  • You didn't answer all day — I was worried about you.

I'm glad you're okay.

09

What's taking them so long?

  • I wonder what's taking them so long.
  • What's taking them so long? They left an hour ago.

Why are they so late?

10

Thanks a lot for the encouragement.

  • Wow. Thanks a lot for the encouragement.
  • Thanks a lot for the encouragement — that really helped.

Thanks a lotThank you 本気で感謝するなら I really appreciate it.

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

(It) doesn't hurt to ~

Doesn't hurt to try.

PATTERN 2

What's taking ~ so long?

What's taking them so long?

take時間を要するの意味で、It takes an hour.

PATTERN 3

命令文 + all you want

Try all you want.

命令文のあとに all you want を置くだけででき、Say all you want.(何とでも言え)のように応用できます。

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use expression

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

fall for ~
