Episode Summary

A swordswoman who has dreamt her own funeral wakes on a beach, pulled from the crystal by a fire-eating wizard, and her childhood friends, resolved to learn the world on their own, try to slip away before she sees them off with fireworks and three rules for life. Back home, the rebuilt guild hall has acquired a café and a gift shop, two former enemies are signed up, and an arrogant senior wizard beats the newest recruit, who refuses to fight back.

💡 同じやり方で、感じる形です。agree が「同意する」なのに対し、feel the same way は「気持ちが同じ」と感情の共有を言うのが違い。告白の返事にも使われます。

例文

I love this town, and my wife feels the same way.

訳フェアリーテイルに行って、じっちゃんに入会の話をしたいってさ。

表現sign up登録する・入会する

💡 名前を書いて、加わる形です。join が「加わる」なのに対し、sign up は「申し込み・登録の手続きをする」と手続きに焦点があるのが違い。for ~ / with ~ で対象を足します。

例文

I signed up for a yoga class.

表現give ~ a try〜を試してみる

💡 〜に、試みを与える形です。try が「試す」とほぼ同じですが、give ~ a try は「気軽に一度やってみる」とハードルを下げる響きがあるのが違い。

例文

I've never had sushi, but I'll give it a try.

訳もちろん。でも無理強いはしたくないから、少し考えてみて。

表現put pressure on ~〜にプレッシャーをかける

💡 〜の上に、圧力を置く形です。force が「強制する」なのに対し、put pressure on ~ は「精神的に追いつめる」と心理的な重さを言うのが違い。think ~ over(よく考える)も同じ行の表現です。

例文

My parents never put pressure on me to get good grades.

訳リゾートで少し落ち着いたころ、エルザは私に全部話してくれた。

表現open up to ~〜に心を開く

💡 〜に向かって、開く形です。talk to が「話す」なのに対し、open up to ~ は「本音や秘密を打ち明ける」と心の扉のイメージがあるのが違い。

例文

It took a while, but he finally opened up to me.

訳よう!みんな無事に帰ってきてよかったな。

表現make it back無事に戻る

💡 戻ることを、やり遂げる形です。come back が「戻る」なのに対し、make it back は「(困難を越えて)たどり着く」と無事のニュアンスが入るのが違い。

例文

We made it back home before the storm.

訳新入りをいじめてるんじゃないだろうな?

表現give ~ a hard time〜をいじめる・困らせる

💡 〜につらい時間を、与える形です。bully が「いじめる」なのに対し、give ~ a hard time は「からかう・文句を言う」と軽いものから使えるのが違い。

例文

Stop giving your little brother a hard time.

訳やりすぎだ。落ち着けよ。

表現take ~ too far〜をやりすぎる

💡 〜を、遠くへ運びすぎる形です。overdo が「やりすぎる」なのに対し、take ~ too far は「許される一線を越える」と境界線を意識させるのが違い。

例文

It was a joke at first, but they took it too far.

訳今まで気づかなかった。あいつ、反撃してない。

表現fight back反撃する

💡 戦い返す形です。fight が「戦う」なのに対し、fight back は「攻撃されてやり返す」と受け身からの反撃を言うのが違い。

例文

If someone pushes you, don't be afraid to fight back.

He's letting them get their anger out on him.

訳みんなの怒りを、自分にぶつけさせてるんだ。

表現get ~ out〜を吐き出す

💡 〜を、外に出す形です。show が「見せる」なのに対し、get ~ out は「ため込んだ感情を外に出しきる」と発散のニュアンスがあるのが違い。on ~ で向け先を足せます。

例文

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

第41話の実際のセリフから、中級で押さえたい文法を3つ。

PATTERN 1

If it weren't for ~, I wouldn't …(〜がいなかったら、…していないだろう)

If it weren't for you and the others, I wouldn't be here today.

If it weren't for ~ は仮定法で「〜がなければ」。感謝の気持ちを伝える定番の型です。

他にも使える例:

I can't believe ~ has been ~ing for …(〜が…も〜し続けているなんて信じられない)

I can't believe he's been sleeping for the last three days.

現在完了進行形で「ずっと〜し続けている」を表し、I can't believe で驚き・あきれを添える形です。

他にも使える例:

I wish we could ~, but deep down I know …(〜できたらいいけど、本当は…だとわかっている)

I wish we could stay together forever, but deep down I know I'd only hold you back.

I wish we could ~ でかなわない願いを言い、deep down I know で本心からの理解を続ける形です。別れの場面によく合います。
