Episode Summary
Exams are coming, so Konata asks her teacher for study tips and gets told to goof off and sleep. Afterwards the talk turns to blood types, sushi fortunes and whether TV psychics ever actually hit the mark. Then everyone goes to a cake buffet with a one-hour limit and a penalty for leftovers, and discovers there is such a thing as too much cake.

💡 right off the bat は野球のバットから球が飛ぶ瞬間のイメージで「いきなり・すぐに」。overdo it（やりすぎる）も覚えましょう。

You tend to burn yourself out if you concentrate too hard on something.
訳何かに集中しすぎると、燃え尽きちゃうタイプですよね。
表現burn oneself out燃え尽きる
💡 burn out は「燃え尽きる」。burnout（燃え尽き症候群）は職場の話題でも頻出です。
例文
Take some time off, or you'll burn yourself out.
休みを取らないと燃え尽きちゃうよ。
Even you have rough patches, don't you?
訳かがみでも調子の悪いときはあるんだね。
表現rough patches不調な時期
💡 rough patch は「でこぼこの区間」＝「苦しい時期」。go through a rough patch の形でよく使います。
例文
Every marriage goes through rough patches.

訳とにかく、私たちって類は友を呼ぶって感じだなって思ってさ。

💡 Birds of a feather flock together. は「同じ羽の鳥は群れる」＝「類は友を呼ぶ」。前半だけで使うことも多いです。
例文

訳あんた、このままじゃろくな人間にならないと思うよ。
表現amount to anythingものになる
💡 amount to ~ は「（合計して）〜になる」。not amount to anything で「ものにならない・大成しない」という厳しい評価です。
例文
His teachers said he'd never amount to anything.
先生たちは彼が大成しないと言った。
The guesses hit the mark sometimes, but sometimes they're way off, too.
訳当たるときもあるけど、大外れのときもあるよね。
表現hit the mark的中する
💡 hit the mark は「的に当たる」＝「的中する・的を射る」。反対はway off（大はずれ）です。
例文
Your comment really hit the mark.

表現give ~ a heads up〜に前もって知らせる
💡 heads-up は「事前の注意・お知らせ」。give 人 a heads up はビジネスメールでもよく使う表現です。
例文
Thanks for the heads up about the traffic.
渋滞のこと、事前に教えてくれてありがとう。

訳でも、応募するたびに2倍楽しむ方法を見つけたんだ。
表現milk ~ out of ~〜から…を最大限に引き出す
💡 milk は動詞で「乳を搾る」から「とことん引き出す」。milk A out of B は得られるものを残さず得るイメージです。

彼女は休暇を骨の髄まで楽しんだ。
She definitely has what it takes to become an Idol.
訳彼女にはアイドルになる素質が絶対にあるわ。
表現have what it takes to ~〜する素質がある
💡 what it takes は「必要なもの」。have what it takes to ~ で「〜するだけの資質・力がある」です。

訳まだアイドルってものがわかってないなんて、信じられないわ。
表現~ blows my mind〜に驚かされる
💡 blow one's mind は「頭を吹き飛ばす」＝「度肝を抜く」。mind-blowing（驚くべき）という形容詞もあります。
例文
It blows my mind how fast kids grow up.
子どもの成長の早さには驚かされる。
〈上級〉裏の顔を指摘する・引き込まれる・埋め合わせる——場面を運ぶ言い回しを5個。Must-Know とは別枠の実用表現です。

訳統計的に言えば、数打ちゃいくつかは当たるものよ。

I didn't want you to think ~（〜と思われたくなかった）I didn't want you to think that you were wrong when you weren't
こなたが間違ってないのに間違ってたって思わせたくなかったの。
want 人 to ~ の否定で「人に〜と思ってほしくない」。誤解を解くときの誠実な前置きです。
他にも使える例：
If you ~ enough, you're bound to …（十分〜すれば、必ず…する）…if you make enough guesses, you're bound to get a few of them right.
数打ちゃ、いくつかは当たるもんよ。
be bound to ~ は「きっと〜する」。enough と組んで確率の話をするときの型です。
他にも使える例：
If you were only that ~ about …, …（…にもそれくらい〜なら…なのに）If you were only that hardcore about studying, your test scores would be better.
勉強にもそれくらい本気なら、点数も上がるのにね。
仮定法過去で「もし〜なら…なのに」。only を入れると「せめて〜なら」という嘆きが強まります。
