Episode Summary
Two years of lessons turn the young mage into a prodigy who can outcast his own tutor, while his father insists on sword practice he is far too small to enjoy. The real test, though, is not a spell but a front door: the boy's old-life dread of going outside returns, and it takes his teacher, a patient horse and a very large rainstorm to walk him through it before she leaves to see the world.

💡 tend to ~ は〜しがち、think the worst は最悪の想像をするです。

💡 cooperate は協力する。体を主語にして「思うように動かない」と言う表現です。

💡 lack ~ は〜が足りない（他動詞）。of your caliber はあなたほどの力量のです。

意味望めるもの以上のものを、あなたはくれました。
💡 could have asked for は望めたかもしれない。最大級の感謝を伝える言い方です。

at this rate は今のペースが続けば。良い予測にも悪い予測にも使え、進み具合を報告する場面でそのまま使えます。
他にも使える例：
It takes more than ~ to ~（〜するには…だけでは足りない）It takes more than brute force to defend the people who are dearest to you.
大切な人を守るには、力任せだけでは足りない。
It takes ~ to … は…するには〜が要る。more than を入れると「〜だけでは足りない」という教訓めいた言い方になります。
他にも使える例：
Be that as it may, ~（それはそうとして〜）Be that as it may, I'm afraid there's almost nothing left I can offer that will be of any use to you.
それはそうとして、もう私に教えられることはほとんどありません。
相手の言葉をいったん受け止めてから、本題に戻るときの改まった言い方。Even so, ~ より硬く、文章語寄りです。
他にも使える例：

お申し出はとてもありがたいです。
It's kind of you to ~ は〜してくださってありがとうのていねいな形。このあとに but ~ を続けると、申し出をやんわり断る定番の言い方になります。Thanks for the offer. はくだけた言い方です。この回では、引き止められた師匠が旅立ちを告げる場面で使われています。
