第12話の実際のセリフから、書き言葉でも通用する上級構文を3つ。
PATTERN 1
I hate to think of how ~ must be（〜がどれほど〜か、考えるだけでつらい）
I hate to think of how frightened these children must be
この子たちがどれほど怖い思いをしているか、考えるだけでつらい
must be は「〜に違いない」という推量です。
他にも使える例：
- I hate to think of how tired she must be.（疲れ）
- I hate to think of how lonely he must be.（寂しさ）
PATTERN 2
Why do people get to decide that ~?（なぜ人は〜だと決めつけられるのか？）
Why do people get to decide that some violent acts are heroic and others are villainous?
なぜ、ある暴力は英雄的で、別の暴力は悪だと決められる？
get to ~ は「〜する権利がある」。some ~ and others ~ で対比しています。
他にも使える例：

PATTERN 3
~ would have ~ if it weren't for ~（〜がなかったら、〜していただろう）

if it weren't for ~ は「〜がなければ」です。
