Episode Summary
The first round is cleared in a run of short matches: Kaminari asks his opponent out and is tied up in vines within seconds, and a support-course inventor talks Iida into wearing her gear so she can turn their bout into a live sales pitch. Ashido gets the better of Aoyama, Tokoyami shoves Yaoyorozu out of the ring, and Kirishima and Tetsutetsu flatten each other for a draw. Backstage, Uraraka turns down Izuku's plan for beating Bakugo and walks out to face him alone.

🔥 Must-Know Expressions
10 expressions |
- I've come to the festival in search of victory, not to take my opponent's life. That wouldn't be in line with the values of a hero at all.
- The proposal isn't in line with our budget.
be in line with ⇔ be out of line with が対になります。be out of line
- They love my babies! I've got this in the bag!
- Two goals up at halftime — they had it in the bag.
It's in the bag.
- This match is gonna be a piece of cake. — I do believe you're going to be eating those words.
- I said it wouldn't sell. I had to eat my words.
04
keep one's eyes peeled
- Keep those eyes peeled! I wanna see a super-flashy battle this time!
- Keep your eyes peeled for a blue sign.
keep an eye out for ~ とほぼ同義で、peeled のほうが口語的。
- An unexpected meteor shower could pave the way for your path to victory!
- That study paved the way for a new treatment.
pave the way for + 名詞 が基本形で、研究・制度・先駆者を語る文章で頻出です。
- There's little doubt he'll start the match with a preemptive strike.
- Cutting the price was a preemptive strike.
preempt(先んじる)という動詞も同じ家族。
- He can also call upon the creature instantaneously.
- We may have to call upon outside help.
- It's looking like it's going to drag on for quite a while.
- The meeting dragged on past six.
go on が中立なのに対し、drag on は必ず否定的です。
- Well, if everyone's on the same page, let's begin the fourth match!
- Let's make sure we're on the same page before the call.
get on the same page
10
hack one's way through ~
- You'd have to find some way to tear them off or just hack your way through using brute force.
- We hacked our way through the paperwork.
fight one's way through ~ も同じ作りの仲間です。

🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
PATTERN 1
as + 形容詞 + a + 名詞 + as possible(できるかぎり〜な…)
She wanted this to be as even a match as possible.
語順は 形容詞 → a → 名詞——× as an even match as possible とは書けません。 as ~ as possible は「できるかぎり」の定型で、as ~ as we can と言い換えられます。
- It was as fair a deal as possible.(可能なかぎり公平な取引だった)
- Give me as short an answer as you can.(できるだけ短く答えて)
PATTERN 2
keep 人 from + 動詞ing(人が〜しないようにする)
It can keep the user from falling unless they actually want to.
What's keeping you from ~?(何が引っかかっているの?)
- Nothing's keeping you from trying.(試すのを止めるものは何もない)
- The rain kept us from leaving.(雨で出られなかった)
PATTERN 3
There's little doubt (that) ~(〜はほぼ間違いない)
There's little doubt he'll start the match with a preemptive strike.
There's a little doubt. There's no doubt that ~ にすると完全な断定になります。
- There's little doubt it will pass.(可決はほぼ確実だ)
- There's no doubt she's the best fit.(彼女が最適なのは間違いない)
🎯 Today's Phrase
Native daily-use expression
★ TODAY'S PHRASE
be on the same page
- Let's make sure we're on the same page.
- Are we on the same page about the deadline?
- Good — we're on the same page.
Before we start, let's get on the same page.

この 上級版 では、be in line with ~ / eat one's words / pave the way for ~ / be on the same page を中心に据えました。
