Episode Summary

The first round is cleared in a run of short matches: Kaminari asks his opponent out and is tied up in vines within seconds, and a support-course inventor talks Iida into wearing her gear so she can turn their bout into a live sales pitch. Ashido gets the better of Aoyama, Tokoyami shoves Yaoyorozu out of the ring, and Kirishima and Tetsutetsu flatten each other for a draw. Backstage, Uraraka turns down Izuku's plan for beating Bakugo and walks out to face him alone.

root for ~ / take a sec / talk out loud

🔥 Must-Know Expressions 10 expressions |

01

fill out ~

  • And you didn't fill out any of the proper paperwork for that.
  • Fill out this form before you go in.

02

turn in ~

  • He turned in the proper forms.
  • Turn in your report by Friday.

03

take a sec

  • Maybe you should take a sec to relax before planning too many matches ahead.
  • Take a sec and read it again.

Give me a sec.(ちょっと待って)も同じ sec。

04

talk out loud

  • Sometimes I don't realize I'm talking out loud when I'm taking notes.
  • Sorry, I was just talking out loud.

(Just thinking out loud here.)。

05

root for ~

  • The one I'm personally rooting for, also from Class 1-A, Ochaco Uraraka!
  • We're all rooting for you.

06

repay ~

  • You've helped me so much. Maybe I can repay you a little bit with this.
  • I'd like to repay your kindness.

07

tear ~ off

  • You'd have to find some way to tear them off.
  • He tore off the label.

08

go down

  • Dang, Aoyama went down hard!
  • The server went down for an hour.

go down hard なら「派手に倒れる」。go down as ~(〜として記憶される)、go down with ~(病気にかかる・英)も同じ形の仲間です。

09

get close to ~

  • It would be impossible to get close to her while avoiding all those thorns and vines.
  • I couldn't get close to the stage.

10

plan ahead

  • Maybe you should take a sec to relax before planning too many matches ahead.
  • We should plan ahead for the busy season.

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

I thought you were supposed to be strong!

① 予定・規則(〜することになっている)(We're supposed to meet at six.) You're not supposed to ~ は「してはいけない」というやわらかい禁止になります。

PATTERN 2

But, in order to keep you from doing that, she added thorns.

否定は in order not to + 動詞の原形(in order not to wake him)——not の位置がここでの山です。硬さでは so as to ≒ in order to > to の順。

PATTERN 3

depend on whether ~(〜かどうかで決まる)

So it'll all depend on whether or not Ashido can dodge his attacks.

whether or not とまとめて言うことも、whether ~ or not と離すこともできます。

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use expression

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

You got this.

正しくは You've got this. Good luck. が運を願うのに対し、You got this.
