Episode Summary

Uraraka needs one touch to beat Bakugo, and he refuses to give her one, blasting her back until the pros in the crowd start booing and Aizawa suggests they hang up their capes: the boy is taking her seriously because she has earned it. Her real plan is the rubble from his own blasts, drifting overhead, but he breaks up the shower with one shot and she is out. On the phone her father tells her there is no need to rush, and the second round opens with Izuku against Todoroki.

🔥 Must-Know Expressions 10 expressions |

01

step in

  • Hey, shouldn't one of the teachers step in?
  • A neighbor stepped in before it got worse.

02

look into ~

  • I'd suggest looking into another career.
  • I'll look into it and get back to you.

I'll look into it.

03

back ~ up

  • I didn't have a backup plan for what I'd do if that big move didn't work out.
  • Back up your files before the update.

04

cheer ~ on

  • Instead, she's cheering me on.
  • The whole class cheered him on.

05

keep ~ focused on …

  • And then she kept him focused on her by attacking relentlessly, without rest.
  • Keep the team focused on the deadline.

stay focused(自分が集中し続ける)と対で覚えると使い分けが効きます。

06

get out of the way

  • Saw it coming and I still couldn't get out of the way.
  • Get out of the way, it's hot!

Out of the way! get ~ out of the way

07

rush ~

  • I rushed it too much at the end.
  • Don't rush the ending.

be rushed off one's feet(てんてこ舞いだ)も同じ rush。

08

drain ~

  • She was really careful not to drain my stamina too much.
  • That meeting drained me.

09

take ~ on a vacation

  • And, well, if you do make money, just take us on a vacation.
  • They took their parents on a vacation last spring.

go on a vacation(自分が行く)とtake 人 on a vacation(連れていく)の違いに注意。

10

let ~ have this

  • She completely overpowered you. — Can't you just let me have this?
  • I won one round. Let me have this.

let 人 have it だと「こっぴどく叱る」——it と this で正反対です。

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

There's no need for 人 to + 動詞の原形(〜する必要はない)

Ochaco, there's no need for you to rush.

「誰が」は for 人 で挟むのがこの形の骨組みです(× There's no need you to rush)。 There's no need to ~ と for を省けば一般論に、No need.

PATTERN 2

Sorry for + 動詞ing(〜してごめん)

Sorry for not picking up earlier, Daddy.

否定は not を -ing の前に置くのが決まりで(Sorry for not calling)、ここが最大の山。Sorry to + 動詞の原形もありますが、to はこれからすること、-ing はもうしたこと——Sorry to bother you.(今から邪魔します)とSorry for bothering you.(邪魔しました)で時間が逆になります。

PATTERN 3

What ~ for?(何のために〜なの?)

What're you in such a hurry for, huh?

(What did you buy it for?/何に使うの?)。What for?

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use expression

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

Good luck out there.

Good luck.

この 中級版 では、step in / look into ~ / cheer ~ on / end up ~ing を中心に据えました。
