Episode Summary
Izuku and Todoroki's match turns into a war of attrition, with Izuku spending his fingers one at a time to blow away the ice while Bakugo points out from the stands that Quirks tire like muscles and Todoroki is visibly shivering. Izuku goads him to fight at full strength, memories of his mother come flooding back, and Todoroki finally lights his left side. The collision fills the stadium with steam, and when it clears Izuku is out of bounds.

🔥 Must-Know Expressions
10 expressions |
01
come at ~ with all one's got
- So come at me with all you've got!
- Come at it with all you've got — you only get one try.
💡 all you've got give it all you've got
- You haven't managed to put a single scratch on me yet.
- Two hours of arguing and they hadn't put a scratch on his case.
- Maybe his Quirk is like a magic meter in a video game. If that's true, he could be running on empty.
- I've been running on empty since Tuesday.
be running low on ~ なら「〜が残り少ない」。
- Why are you putting yourself through this?
- She put herself through night school.
- I can't believe he went on the offensive there!
- The company went on the offensive with a price cut.
- He abandoned restraint and fired off a shot at 100 percent.
- In the last round they abandoned restraint entirely.
show restraint(自制する)、without restraint(遠慮なく)も同じ語。
- If I'd spent my whole arm on a full-powered smash and the ice held, I'd be doomed.
- Without a backup, we'd be doomed.
- I'm sorry about this, but thanks for drawing it out.
- Don't draw out the introduction.
- To go through such intense pain and still be putting up a fight requires an absurd amount of resolve.
- It took an absurd amount of time.
a ridiculous / an insane amount of ~ も同じ働き。
- The ice behind him is probably how he plans to keep from being blown out of bounds.
- A gust blew the papers out of bounds.

🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
PATTERN 1
A is what you make of it(〜は使う人しだいだ)
A Quirk is what you make of it, regardless of your history.
What do you make of it?(どう思う?)が同じ make of。College is what you make of it.
- Life is what you make of it.(人生はどう生きるか次第だ)
- What do you make of his answer?(彼の返事、どう思う?)
PATTERN 2
It's easy to forget that ~(〜だとつい忘れてしまう)
It's easy to forget that Quirks are physical abilities, and that means there's a limit.
We tend to forget that ~ より柔らかいのはそのためです。 It's tempting to think that ~(つい〜と思いたくなる)と応用が利きます。
- It's easy to forget that they're volunteers.(彼らが有志だとつい忘れる)
- It's easy to forget how far we've come.(ここまで来たことを忘れがちだ)
PATTERN 3
Don't give me the excuse that ~(〜だなんて言い訳するな)
And don't give me the excuse that you don't have control over your Quirk.
give 人 the excuse that ~ は「that以下の言い訳を差し出す」という第4文型。the excuse と that節が同格(=言い訳の中身がthat以下)で、the fact that ~ / the idea that ~ と同じ作りです。 Let's not fall back on the excuse that ~。
- Don't give me the excuse that you forgot.(忘れたなんて言うなよ)
- He used the excuse that the train was late.(電車が遅れたという口実を使った)
🎯 Today's Phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE
run on empty
- I've been running on empty all week.
- The team is running on empty.
- Don't run on empty — take the afternoon off.

この 上級版 では、come at ~ with all one's got / run on empty / go on the offensive / draw ~ out を中心に据えました。
