Episode Summary

Izuku abandons the stalled train and races across the rooftops of a burning Hosu, where Endeavor takes over from Gran Torino against a Nomu. Guessing that Iida has gone after the Hero Killer, Izuku searches the quiet back streets and arrives just in time, only to be paralysed by Stain's Quirk alongside Iida and a pro. Todoroki, having decoded a text that contained nothing but a location, turns up with fire and ice, and the two agree to hold out until the pros arrive.

stall for time / can't just stand by / return the favor

🔥 Must-Know Expressions 10 expressions |

01

handle ~ from here on out

  • I'm afraid I don't know you, but I can handle this from here on out.
  • Thanks for setting it up — I can handle it from here on out.

💡 from here on out は「ここから先はずっと」。 I'll take it from here.

02

stall for time

  • I'll just have to protect these two who can't move and stall for time.
  • Stall for time while I find the file.

03

can't just stand by

  • But I can't just stand by. I have to do something!
  • We can't just stand by while they sort it out alone.

bystander(傍観者)も同じ stand by から来た語です。

04

see through ~

  • But I saw through your plan.
  • She saw through the excuse immediately.

see through a person

05

return the favor

  • Of course, I'm working hard so I can return the favor.
  • You covered for me last month — let me return the favor.

06

overthink things

  • I might be overthinking things.
  • Don't overthink it — just send the first draft.

Don't overthink it.

07

put ~ to the test

  • Gotta put my training to the test.
  • This week will put the new process to the test.

08

with one's own eyes

  • I chose him so I could learn what it takes with my own eyes and ears.
  • I wanted to see the site with my own eyes.

with one's own ears firsthand(じかに)とほぼ同じ働きをします。

09

acknowledge ~

  • And I can acknowledge that.
  • She acknowledged the mistake without being asked.

💡 admit(しぶしぶ認める)との違いがポイントです。

10

be in the way

  • You're in the way, kid. Get out of here.
  • Sorry, is my bag in the way?

💡 way は「通り道」——その道の上に立っているのが be in the way です。 get in the way of ~ と of を足せば「〜の妨げになる」と対象を言えて、Don't let it get in the way of your work.

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

It's not that ~.

It's not that you predicted my movements. You just left my field of vision.

PATTERN 2

could(推量の could)(〜かもしれない)

The amount could play into how long it works.

It could be A, or it could be B.

PATTERN 3

関係副詞 where(〜する場所)

Most of his victims were found where there weren't many people.

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use expression

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

return the favor

だから明るい場面で使える——Let me return the favor.

この 上級版 では、handle ~ from here on out / stall for time / can't just stand by / return the favor を中心に据えました。
