Episode Summary

All Might explains that his power is not something he was born with: One For All is a torch handed from one holder to the next, growing each time. Izuku says yes before he understands what he is agreeing to — and is handed the "Aim to Pass: American Dream Plan" and a beach buried in ten years of illegally dumped trash. Ten months later the sand is clean, and the entrance exam is that morning.

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

It's true that there's a lot of debate as to what your Quirk actually is.

うしろは間接疑問なので平叙文の語順(× as to what is your Quirk)。

PATTERN 2

There's nothing + 形容詞 + about ~(〜には少しも…

There's nothing natural about my ability.

My ability isn't natural. が素直な否定なのに対し、There's nothing ~ about … about のうしろは名詞で、形容詞は nothing の直後(× There's nothing about my ability natural)。 (There's nothing boring about it.)。

PATTERN 3

There's a difference between A and B(AとBは別のものだ)

There's a difference between being lucky and deserving.

A isn't B There's a difference between ~ は「区別がある」——説き聞かせる調子になるのが違い。 Never confuse the two.

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

live up to ~

The film didn't live up to expectations.(あの映画は期待に届かなかった)のように使えます。up to をひとかたまりで落とさないのが決まりです(× live to the expectations)。

stand idly by / live up to ~ / follow ~ to the letter / be passed on to ~ のような受け渡しと評価の言い回しを中心に据えました。

as to + 疑問詞(〜については)、There's nothing ~ about …(かけらもない)、There's a difference between A and B(別のものだ)——絞る・打ち消す・分ける型が並んでいます。
