Episode Summary

Back from their internships, the class trades stories, and All Might sets a rescue race through a maze of factories in which Izuku, to general astonishment, bounds across the rooftops without breaking a single bone — then loses his footing at the end and hands Sero the win. After class, All Might finally tells him where One For All came from: a villain who stole Quirks, a sickly younger brother who resisted him, and an enemy who is somehow still alive.

これは 中級レベル版。第33話は、職場体験の報告会、工場地帯での救助レース、そしてオールマイトの打ち明け話が英語の見どころです。take to the sky / find one's way around / tie together といった実際に作中で使われている表現に、chaotic / disaster / unstable / maze / semester のような語彙を合わせました。もう一方のレベルは〈上級〉版でどうぞ。

🔥 Must-Know Expressions 10 expressions | 各解説つき

〈中級〉第33話に出てくる、会話でそのまま口から出る句動詞を10個。すべて作中で実際に話されている英語です。

01

help ~ evacuate

意味〜の避難を手伝う

  • All I did was help people evacuate.
  • Staff helped everyone evacuate calmly.

💡 help + 目的語 + 動詞の原形という形。to は入れても入れなくてもよいのが help の特徴で、会話では省くほうがふつうです。evacuate は「避難する」も「避難させる」も同じ形——We evacuated the building. は建物から人を出したということ。

02

take to the sky

意味空に上がる

  • So that means Sero's at an advantage because he can take to the sky.
  • The balloons took to the sky at seven.

💡 take to ~ は「〜へ移る・なじむ」。take to the sky / take to the road / take to the water と、その場所へ乗り出すという形で使われます。take to ~ing なら「〜する癖がつく」と、まったく別の意味になります。

03

stay calm and alert

意味落ち着いて、気を張っている

  • I've just gotta stay calm and alert.
  • Stay calm and alert until the shift ends.

💡 calm(落ち着いて)と alert(気を配って)は、一見逆に見えます。慌てないが、ぼんやりもしない——その両立を一息で言えるのがこの組み合わせの便利さです。安全講習や運転の場面で決まり文句として使われます。

04

find one's way around

意味歩き方をつかむ/道に慣れる

  • Good luck finding your way around.
  • It took me a week to find my way around.

💡 around が「あたり一帯を」。迷わずに動けるようになるという意味です。建物にも街にも、ソフトの操作にも使えて、find your way around the software のような言い方もできます。

05

pass ~ along

意味〜を次へ渡す

  • One For All can only be given to another person if you, the bearer, intend to pass it along.
  • I'll pass your message along.

💡 along が「先へ、順に」。自分のところで止めず、次の人へ回す形です。物にも情報にも使えて、pass ~ on もほぼ同じ意味。Pass it along. は「回しておいて」というひと言になります。

06

tie together

意味つながる/筋が通る

  • How does this all tie together, though?
  • The last chapter ties everything together.

💡 ばらばらの話を、結び合わせるという図。自動詞なら「つながる」、他動詞で tie ~ together なら「まとめる」。説明を聞いていて筋が見えないとき、How does this tie together? と聞けば失礼になりません。

07

work on ~

意味〜を鍛える/取り組む

  • Man, I really gotta work on my mobility.
  • I'm working on my pronunciation.

💡 on が「その対象に手をかけている」ことを示します。完成していないものが目的語になるので、進行形で使うことが多いのが特徴。work at ~ もほぼ同じですが、on は対象、at は努力の向きという感じの差があります。

08

be jealous of ~

意味〜がうらやましい

  • I'm jealous of guys like you and Sero.
  • I'm jealous of anyone who sleeps well.

💡 日本語の「嫉妬」より軽く使えます——「いいなあ」くらいの気持ちでも jealous。envious のほうが上品ですが、会話では jealous が主流です。I'm so jealous! は、相手の幸運を祝うひと言としても使えます。

09

hang out with ~

意味〜と過ごす

  • Hanging out with everyone all summer — I'm so excited!
  • We hung out with them after the game.

💡 目的のない、ゆるやかな時間を指すのが hang out。「遊ぶ」と訳されますが、何かをする必要はありません。hang out at ~ なら場所、hang out with ~ なら相手——前置詞で言い分けます。

10

It makes sense to ~

意味〜するのが理にかなう

  • In a maze like this, it makes sense to be above everything else.
  • It makes sense to book early.

💡 make sense は「筋が通る」。It makes sense to ~ で「そうするのが道理だ」という判断になります。That makes sense. は説明を受けて納得したときのひと言。make sense of ~ と of を足すと「〜を理解する」と、意味がまるで変わるので注意してください。

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

第33話の実際のセリフから、中級で押さえたい文法を3つ。

PATTERN 1

Feels like ~(〜な気がする)

Feels like I haven't seen you in a while.

It feels like ~ の It が落ちた形で、会話ではこの短い形がふつうです。後ろは文をそのまま置けます。事実かどうかより、話し手の感覚を述べる言い方なので、断定を避けたいときに便利。Feels like Friday.(金曜みたいだ)のように短くも使えます。

他にも使える例:

PATTERN 2

I wonder + 疑問詞(〜かなあ)

I wonder what he wants.

疑問文ではなく、独り言に近い形です。語順は平叙文のまま——I wonder what does he want. は誤り。相手に直接聞きにくいことを口に出すのにも使え、やわらかい問いかけになります。I wonder if ~ なら「〜かしら」と可能性を言えます。

他にも使える例:

PATTERN 3

Even though ~, …(〜にもかかわらず、…)

Even though everyone thought he was Quirkless, he did have a Quirk.

even though は「実際にそうなのに」——事実を認めたうえで、逆の内容を続けます。even if(仮に〜でも)とは別物で、though は事実、if は仮定。though を文末に置いて「でもね」と添えることもできます(It's cold, though.)。

他にも使える例:

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use expression

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

I wonder what ~

⭐ 呼び出された理由が分からず、緑谷がつぶやいた一言。疑問文ではなく、独り言に近い形です。だから語順は平叙文のまま——I wonder what does he want.

この 中級版 では、help ~ evacuate / work on ~ / hang out with ~ / pass ~ along を中心に据えました。語彙は chaotic / disaster / unstable / maze / semester で揃えています。いずれも作中に実在する英語です。

この回でとくに実用になるのは、久しぶりに顔を合わせたときのひと言です。「無事でよかった」「うらやましい」「久しぶりな気がする」「何の用だろう」——第33話は職場体験から戻った教室の回で、報告と雑談のあいだに短い定型が次々に出てきます。休み明けの職場でもそのまま使える形ばかりです。
