Episode Summary

With finals a week away, Kaminari and Ashido admit they have taken almost no notes, and Yaoyorozu, delighted to be asked, turns her family mansion into a study hall stocked with Harrods tea. Kendo leaks that the practical will be robots again, which turns out to be wrong: the teachers walk in and announce that students will fight them in pairs, with Izuku and Bakugo against All Might.

01

pull punches

  • They probably won't pull any punches when it comes to testing us.
  • The review didn't pull any punches.

02

cram

  • It won't do them any good to cram this late in the game.
  • I crammed for it the night before.

03

humble brag

  • Is she humble bragging?
  • That was a humble brag if I've ever heard one.

💡 humble(謙虚)と brag(自慢)を貼り合わせた新しい語です。

04

food for thought

  • Here's food for thought.
  • That's food for thought — thanks.

05

get caught up in ~

  • Someday, the rest of us might get caught up in your mess.
  • I got caught up in a long meeting.

06

give away ~

  • You just gave away our whole strategic advantage!
  • Don't give away the ending.

07

fill ~ in

  • One of my friends who's a few grades up filled me in.
  • Fill me in when you have a minute.

fill ~ in on …

08

make everything count

  • I have to make everything count from now on.
  • We've got one week — make everything count.

Make it count.

09

be ranked in the top ten

  • As someone ranked in the top ten, I'm not that concerned.
  • The school is ranked in the top ten nationally.

in the top ten / among the top ten

10

an unwitting victim

  • Then we'll all become unwitting victims as well.
  • Customers became unwitting victims of the delay.

unwitting accomplice(知らずに加担した人)も同じ形。

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

It won't do ~ any good to …(…

It won't do them any good to cram this late in the game.

It does me good to walk.(歩くと調子がいい)が肯定の形。this late in the game

PATTERN 2

As someone ~ed …, …(〜という立場の者として)

As someone ranked in the top ten, I'm not that concerned.

As someone who's been through it, …(経験した者として)は助言を切り出すときの定番になります。

PATTERN 3

Based on various factors, including fighting style, grades, and interpersonal relationships.

この 上級版 では、pull punches / food for thought / get caught up in ~ / make everything count を中心に据えました。
