Episode Summary
The whole episode belongs to one narrator. She lays out, step by step, how she came to hate losing, who she was measured against, and what happened on the night of October 4th — including who arrived afterward to clean it up and what it cost. Meanwhile a comedy duo ends, a press conference begins, and a doctor asks a hospital about a patient from thirty years ago.

🔥 Must-Know Expressions
10 expressions |
- Comedy duos I've never seen or heard of poked fun at me.
- The hosts poked fun at his accent.
- We should put that girl front and center.
- Put the numbers front and center on the slide.
put / place / keep ~ front and center
- I might have grown up on the streets, but corpses make my skin crawl.
- That laugh makes my skin crawl.
(It makes my skin crawl.)。
04
exercise extreme caution
- I exercised extreme caution.
- Drivers should exercise extreme caution tonight.
- He'd have to take her phone someplace far away and dispose of it.
- Dispose of the packaging properly.
- All I could do was keep up the act and continue to work on being an idol.
- He kept up the act until the door closed.
07
put a positive spin on ~
- Is there any way we can put a positive spin on this?
- They put a positive spin on a bad quarter.
08
fall squarely on one's shoulders
- Her absence of proper privacy and security fall squarely on our shoulders.
- The decision falls squarely on the board.
- You know what'll happen if you go off script, right?
- She went off script and it worked.
- Pretty much any information that pertained to himself, a kind of a diary.
- The rule pertains only to new accounts.
to を落とさないのが型で、関係代名詞と組むことが多い(anything that pertains to ~)。

🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
PATTERN 1
All I could do was + 動詞の原形(〜するしかなかった)
All I could do was keep up the act and continue to work on being an idol.
I had to ~ が義務なのに対し、All I could do was ~ は「ほかに手がなかった」——無力さがにじみます。was のうしろは to のない原形(was keep、× was to keep)——主語が All ~ do のときは to を省くのがふつうです。All you have to do is ~(〜するだけでいい)は同じ型の明るいほう。
- All I could do was wait.(待つしかなかった)
- All you have to do is sign here.(ここに署名するだけです)
PATTERN 2
prevent ~ from + 動詞ing(〜が…
Yamamoto would have to return to the office and clean things up there in order to prevent her from being found by GPS.
from を落とせません(× prevent her to be found)。
- Nothing prevents us from starting early.(早く始めていけない理由はありません)
- This prevents the file from being overwritten.(これでファイルの上書きを防げます)
PATTERN 3
It was ~ who …(〜こそが…した)
It was Baba who supported me through it all.
Baba supported me. 人なら who、物や事なら that(It was the letter that changed everything.)。 (It was in October that ~)。
- It was her call that saved the project.(企画を救ったのは彼女の判断だった)
- It was in Osaka that we first met.(最初に会ったのは大阪だった)
🎯 Today's Phrase
Native daily-use phrase
★ TODAY'S PHRASE
put a positive spin on ~
- They put a positive spin on a bad quarter.
- Don't try to put a spin on it — just tell them.
- She put a positive spin on the delay.
