Episode Summary
The whole episode belongs to one narrator. She lays out, step by step, how she came to hate losing, who she was measured against, and what happened on the night of October 4th — including who arrived afterward to clean it up and what it cost. Meanwhile a comedy duo ends, a press conference begins, and a doctor asks a hospital about a patient from thirty years ago.

nothing like as ~ as …

- To be perfectly honest, I only joined because I wanted to make some memories.
- To be perfectly honest, I'd rather stay home.
- I want to get rich so I can afford to have my own place with a gigantic bathroom.
- We can't afford to lose another week.
can / can't と一緒に使うのがほぼ決まりで、can't afford to ~(〜する余裕はない)が最頻出。お金以外にも使えます(can't afford to wait)。

🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
PATTERN 1
Don't you think it's a little too soon to + 動詞の原形?(〜するには早すぎませんか)
Don't you think it's a little too soon to add a new member right now?
It's too soon.
- Don't you think it's a little too soon to decide?(決めるには少し早すぎませんか)
- Don't you think it's a little too soon to celebrate?(喜ぶには早すぎませんか)
PATTERN 2
I feel so lucky to + 動詞の原形(〜できて本当に幸運だ)
I feel so lucky to be in the same group as you.
to のうしろは原形(× lucky to being)。
- I feel so lucky to work with you.(一緒に働けて本当に幸運です)
- I feel lucky that it happened at all.(そもそも実現しただけでも幸運でした)
PATTERN 3
I can't watch you fall apart.
watch / see / hear / feel がこの仲間で、watch you to fall とは言いません。 (He was seen to leave.)——ここも試験の定番です。
- I watched him walk away.(彼が歩き去るのを見ていた)
- I heard someone call my name.(誰かが名前を呼ぶのが聞こえた)
🎯 Today's Phrase
Native daily-use phrase
★ TODAY'S PHRASE
make the cut
- Only three of us made the cut.
- Her essay didn't make the cut.
- Do you think we'll make the cut?
