Episode Summary

A brutal fan letter lands on Homo sapiens' radio show and neither comedian can let it go — one starts talking about dissolving the group, the other can't admit how much it stung. Odokawa spends the night trading questions with Dr. Goriki about sleep, marriage and the nurse he won't admit he likes, then picks up Imai, an idol fan who can analyze Mystery Kiss for a whole fare but can't scrape together the money to get home.

take care of ~ / out of habit / rely on ~ / strike while the iron's hot

🔥 Must-Know Expressions 10 expressions |

01

take care of ~

  • My girlfriend takes care of me.
  • Who takes care of the cat when you travel?

I'll take care of it. Take care.

02

out of habit

  • I'm a regular listener. Turned it on out of habit.
  • I check my phone out of habit.

out of + 名詞は動機を表す型で、out of curiosity / out of kindness と応用できます。

03

rely on ~

  • At the time, I was stubborn and didn't want to rely on my parents.
  • You can rely on him to show up early.

04

pay ~ off

  • You haven't managed to pay it off. No, I have, it's paid.
  • She paid off her student loan in three years.

代名詞は off の前(pay it off)。自動詞の pay off は「努力が実る」(The practice paid off.)

05

weird ~ out

  • That weirded me out.
  • The message really weirded her out.

代名詞は out の前(weirded me out)。

06

collect one's thoughts

  • Hold on. Just collecting my thoughts.
  • Give me a minute to collect my thoughts.

07

strike while the iron's hot

  • If I were you, I'd strike while the iron's hot.
  • They're interested now — strike while the iron's hot.

iron's は iron is の短縮。

08

give ~ the cold shoulder

  • I'd tease her and give her the cold shoulder, then put on a kind smile.
  • He's been giving me the cold shoulder all week.

the を落とさないこと(× give a cold shoulder)。

09

overstep one's bounds

  • I'm sorry. I overstepped my bounds.
  • I may have overstepped my bounds by asking.

10

at this rate

  • At this rate, we're both headed straight for eternal bachelorhood.
  • At this rate, we'll miss the deadline.

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

They say women are as fickle as autumn weather.

否定文なら not as ~ asで「〜ほどではない」。

PATTERN 2

I only asked you to sing one because I assumed that you couldn't.

PATTERN 3

What's + 主語 + like?(〜ってどんな人?)

So tell me, Shirakawa, is there anyone you like? What's he like?

What does he like? How is he? What's it like to ~?

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

strike while the iron's hot

iron's は iron is の短縮で、過去の話なら while the iron was hot と時制を合わせます。
