🔥 Must-Know Expressions
10 expressions |
- Keep at it, Matsuya. You promised your mom you would follow your dreams, remember?
- Keep at it — you're closer than you think.
Don't give up.
- You promised your mom you would follow your dreams, remember?
- She left the bank to follow her dreams.
- I try, but I don't know if I can keep up with her ambition.
- I can't keep up with the new releases.
人にも情報にも使え(keep up with the news)、catch up with ~(遅れを取り戻す)とは段階が違います。
- Just keep working at your own pace.
- Take the course at your own pace.
- I don't know. Maybe I'm not suited for this.
- He's better suited for research than sales.
be suited to ~ もほぼ同じで、be cut out for ~ はもっと口語的な同義表現です。
- You've got that whole charming and innocent thing going for you.
- You've got youth and time going for you.
be good at が技能なのに対し、have ~ going for you は「持ち味」——努力で得たものでなくてよいのが特徴。You've got a lot going for you. for のあとは相手に合わせて you / him / her。
- She's showing up late. She gets so much special treatment.
- Nobody here gets special treatment.
- Harajuku station, please. And make it fast.
- I'll explain, but make it fast.
Hurry up. make it quick も同じ。
- Why are you in such a rush?
- Why is everyone in such a rush this morning?
- Not even I have that much money on hand.
- We don't have spare parts on hand.
cash on hand(手持ちの現金)は定型。 (Staff are on hand to help.)になります。

🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
PATTERN 1
Listen, how is this? Why don't we go to Yufuin?
Why don't you ~?
- Why don't we take a break?(少し休みませんか)
- Why don't we meet halfway?(間を取りませんか)
PATTERN 2
I wish +
She gets so much special treatment. So lucky. I wish I got the same pampering.
I wish I was ~ / I wish I were ~ はどちらも使われ、were のほうが本来の形。 (I wish I had asked.)
- I wish I had more time.(もっと時間があればいいのに)
- I wish he understood.(分かってくれたらいいのに)
PATTERN 3
It's always been my dream to + 動詞の原形(ずっと〜するのが夢だった)
It's always been my dream to get married to someone.
It was my dream ~ だと「もう終わった夢」に聞こえますが、It's always been ~ なら今も続いている——この差は大きい。 my dream を my goal / a habit に替えれば自己紹介や面接にそのまま使えます。
- It's always been my dream to live by the sea.(海のそばで暮らすのがずっと夢でした)
- It's always been my goal to teach.(教えることがずっと目標でした)
🎯 Today's Phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE
keep at it
- Keep at it — you're closer than you think.
- She kept at it for three years.
- It's hard at first, but keep at it.
Don't give up. 目的語を出すなら keep at ~(Keep at the exercises.)。Hang in there.
