Episode Summary
The passenger who took Odokawa's throwaway numbers has won a billion yen, and he drags his benefactor to the club where he works to say thank you — just in time for a masked gunman to walk in. Later Shirakawa finally tells Odokawa everything: the debt, the stolen medication, the patient list, and what Dobu intends to do with a taxi. Dobu, meanwhile, proposes an alliance.

🔥 Must-Know Expressions
10 expressions | 各解説つき
〈中級〉第6話の宝くじが当たった客と芸能界の場面から、そのまま口から出る言い方を10個。すべて作中で実際に話されている英語です。
意味〜にはまる
- Did you get hooked on Mystery Kiss?
- I got hooked on that show in one weekend.
💡 hook は釣り針——引っかかって離れられないという絵です。like が好きなのに対し、get hooked on は「抜け出せない」——自分でも止められないのが含み。on のうしろは名詞か ~ing。be hooked on ~ なら状態、get hooked on ~ ならはまった瞬間を指します。
意味でたらめに/適当に
- I mean, I picked those numbers at random.
- Names were drawn at random.
💡 規則なしにという形です。freely が自由に選ぶことなのに対し、at random は「選んでいない」——意図がないのが要点。at を落とさないのがこの句の形で、random に「ランダムな」という形容詞もありますが、副詞として使うときは at random にします。
意味〜を自分の胸にしまっておく
- Besides, this is way too big for me to keep to myself.
- He kept the news to himself for a week.
💡 自分のところに留めておくという形です。keep a secret が秘密を守るのに対し、keep ~ to oneself は「言わずにおく」——秘密でなくてもいいのが違い。Keep it to yourself. は「他言無用で」。人について使うと「人づきあいをしない」(He keeps to himself.)になります。
04
from one's perspective
意味〜の立場から見れば
- From my perspective, you practically saved my life.
- From her perspective, the offer looked risky.
💡 その人の見ている位置からという形です。I think が意見なのに対し、from my perspective は「見え方の話」——ほかの見え方もあると認めているのが含み。会議で角を立てずに反論するときに便利で、from my point of view もほぼ同じ意味です。
意味今のところ
- In that case, let me ask, are you free at the moment?
- She's not at her desk at the moment.
💡 今この時点では——あとで変わるかもしれないという形です。now が単なる今なのに対し、at the moment は「一時的に」という含みが出ます。電話や受付の応対で頻出(He's in a meeting at the moment.)。in a moment(すぐに)とは意味が違うので注意。
意味そういう気分になる/体力がある
- He said he'd stop by after work if he was feeling up to it.
- Come if you feel up to it.
💡 それに応じられる状態にあるという形です。want to が気持ちなのに対し、feel up to it は「今の自分にできそうか」——体調や余力も含みます。断る側の言い訳としても使え(I'm not up to it today.)、相手に無理をさせない誘い方として便利です。
意味〜に大いに期待する
- I'm really counting on you. I've got high hopes for you, Baba.
- They have high hopes for the new store.
💡 高いところにある期待という形です。expect が予測なのに対し、have high hopes for ~ は「そうなってほしい」——願いの側に寄っています。hopes は複数形が定型。裏切られる前提の場面でも使われるので、少し危うい響きをともなうことがあります。
意味〜と縁を切る
- Then maybe you should cut ties with him, huh?
- The company cut ties with the supplier.
💡 結び目を断つという絵です。break up が主に恋愛なのに対し、cut ties with ~ は仕事・家族・組織にも使えます。ties は複数形(× cut tie)。sever ties はさらに硬い言い方で、報道でよく見かけます。
意味結局のところ
- At the end of the day, you've got solid breeding.
- At the end of the day, it's their decision.
💡 一日の終わりに——あれこれ言ったあとの結論を出す形です。finally が時間の最後なのに対し、at the end of the day は「要するに」——時間の話ではありません。文頭でコンマが定位置。会議や議論をまとめるときの定番で、使いすぎると口ぐせに聞こえるほどよく使われます。
意味のぼりつめる
- Climb that ladder, Rui.
- She climbed the ladder faster than anyone.
💡 はしごを登る——段を一つずつ上がるという絵です。succeed が成功なのに対し、climb the ladder は「順番に上がっていく過程」。the career ladder / the corporate ladder が定型で、組織の中での昇進を指すことが多い言い方。作中は「その調子で上がっていけ」という励ましです。

🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
第6話の実際のセリフから、中級で押さえたい文法を3つ。
PATTERN 1
You'd better (not) + 動詞の原形(〜したほうがいい/〜しないほうがいい)
You'd better not lose that.
それ、なくさないほうがいいですよ。
had betterは「そうしないとまずい」——ただの助言より強い形です。should が「そのほうがいい」なのに対し、had better は結果への警告を含みます。否定は not を後ろに置くのが要点で(You'd better not ~、× You hadn't better)、had を 'd と縮めるのがふつう。目上には使いにくいので、相手が同輩か年下のときに。
他にも使える例:
- You'd better take an umbrella.(傘を持っていったほうがいい)
- You'd better not tell him yet.(まだ彼には言わないほうがいい)
PATTERN 2
whatever + 主語 + 動詞(〜するものは何でも)
He's a VIP, so everything's already paid for. Just order whatever you'd like.
この人はVIPだから、支払いはもう済んでる。好きなものを何でも頼んで。
whatever は「何であれそれを」——名詞のかたまりを作る語です。what が「何を」と尋ねるのに対し、whatever は選択肢を全部開くのが違い。anything (that) ~ に置き換えられます。you'd like / you want / you need と組むと相手に決めてもらう言い方になり、接客でもそのまま使えます。
他にも使える例:
- Take whatever you need.(必要なものは何でも持っていって)
- I'll pay whatever it costs.(いくらかかっても払います)
PATTERN 3
It's hard to put into words what ~(〜をうまく言葉にできない)
Look, I just mean, it's hard to put into words what's good about you, huh?
いや、つまりね、君のいいところって、言葉にしにくいんだよ。
put ~ into wordsで「言葉の形にする」。I can't explain it. が「説明できない」と切ってしまうのに対し、It's hard to put into words ~ は「あるのだが言い表せない」——中身は認めているのが違いです。what 以下が put の目的語で、長いので後ろに回っています。ほめるときにも、感謝のときにも使えます——It's hard to put into words how grateful I am.
他にも使える例:
- It's hard to put into words what this means to me.(これが自分にとって何なのか、言葉にしにくい)
- It's hard to put into words why it works.(なぜうまくいくのか説明しにくい)
🎯 Today's Phrase
Native daily-use phrase
★ TODAY'S PHRASE
at the end of the day
「結局のところ」
- At the end of the day, it's their decision.
- At the end of the day, we all want the same thing.
- At the end of the day, it comes down to money.
⭐ ひとしきり言い合ったあと、話をまとめる一言。一日の終わりにという形ですが、時間の話ではありません——あれこれ並べたあとで「要するに」と結論を出す前置きです。finally が「最後に」と順番を示すのに対し、at the end of the day は「何が一番大事か」を出します。文頭に置いてコンマが定位置。会議のまとめ、面接の締め、意見の食い違いを収めるとき——使える場面がとても広いのが強みです。ただし英語圏でも「口ぐせ」として有名なほど多用される言い方なので、一つの話に一度までにしておくと品よく響きます。ultimately / in the end は同じ役割の言い換えです。
