Episode Summary
The passenger who took Odokawa's throwaway numbers has won a billion yen, and he drags his benefactor to the club where he works to say thank you — just in time for a masked gunman to walk in. Later Shirakawa finally tells Odokawa everything: the debt, the stolen medication, the patient list, and what Dobu intends to do with a taxi. Dobu, meanwhile, proposes an alliance.

🔥 Must-Know Expressions
10 expressions |
- And the way you presume you might still be able to salvage the situation, depending on what I do or say is obnoxious.
- There's no salvaging the situation now.
salvage what you can(拾えるものだけ拾う)が典型で、関係・評判・計画によく使われます。
02
have no expectation of ~
- And I have no expectation of you telling me what you know.
- I have no expectation of a reply.
I don't expect ~ が動詞なのに対し、have no expectation of ~ は名詞で構える——感情を抜いて事実として置けるのが違い。of のうしろは名詞か「人 + ~ing」(of you telling me)。
- You should let him handle it instead of doing something rash.
- Don't do something rash — sleep on it.
- When he saw your name on the list, he took an interest.
- He took an interest in her work early on.
相手を言うなら take an interest in ~。
- In this day and age, bank robbery.
- In this day and age, nobody faxes anything.
now が単に今なのに対し、in this day and age は「これだけ変わったのに」——あきれが入ります。
- I'll leave him be for now.
- Just leave it be until tomorrow.
- Well, in deference to my manliness, he stopped and settled down some.
- The ceremony was shortened in deference to the family.
- The words had sharp edges. Nothing was off limits.
- That topic is off limits at dinner.
限界は複数形 limits(× off limit)。
- Then let's join forces.
- The two firms joined forces last spring.
- You and I were destined to become good allies.
- The plan was destined to fail.
be going to が予定なのに対し、be destined to は「抗えない流れ」——本人の意思の外にあります。いい結末にも悪い結末にも使え(destined to fail)、be destined for + 名詞(〜行きだ)という形もあります。

🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
PATTERN 1
After that, he told me I needed to get close to you however I could.
no matter how ~ に置き換えられ、however のほうが短く硬い。
- I'll finish it however I can.(どんな形でも仕上げます)
- Help however you like.(好きなやり方で手伝ってください)
PATTERN 2
Mainstream media would have paid a ton for it, but they sent it to me for free.
- I would have called, but my phone died.(電話したかったが充電が切れた)
- She would have loved this place.(彼女ならここを気に入っただろうに)
PATTERN 3
What makes 主語 + 形容詞 + is that …(〜なのは…
What makes things even worse is that the gun this guy used was most definitely mine.
is のうしろは that 節で、that は省けます。What I like about it is ~ / What worries me is ~ と、動詞を替えて幅広く応用できます。
- What worries me is that nobody has replied.(気になるのは、誰も返事をしていないことだ)
- What makes it hard is that we can't test it.(難しいのは、試せないという点だ)
🎯 Today's Phrase
Native daily-use phrase
★ TODAY'S PHRASE
for good
- He quit smoking for good.
- They moved back for good.
- The shop closed for good last month.
やめる・去る・閉じると相性がよく、leave for good / quit for good / close for good が定番です。
