Episode Summary
Odokawa goes looking for the student who has been hunting Dobu online, and ends up in a long argument with a young officer about what evil is and whether his own twin brother might be part of it. That night the city fills with costumes, and everyone — Odokawa, Dobu, the idol group, and the man in the skull mask — ends up in the same crowd.

🔥 Must-Know Expressions
10 expressions |
- You're here to turn yourself in, huh?
- He turned himself in the next morning.
oneself は必ず in の前(× turn in oneself)。
02
can't stand the sight of ~
- So that's why you can't stand the sight of me, huh?
- She can't stand the sight of blood.
dislike が好みなのに対し、can't stand the sight of ~ は身体が拒む——理屈より先に反応が出るのが含み。 can't bear the sight of ~ はやや文章寄りの同義表現。
- He'd only be charged with a petty crime.
- She was charged with reckless driving.
with のうしろは罪名(× charged for)。
- Dobu wants to catch Kabasawa, get his gun back from Skull Mask, and finally get the jump on Yano.
- They got the jump on us by announcing first.
- I'll track down more evidence to make it stick.
- It took a week to track down the original file.
人にも物にも情報にも使え、track ~ down の語順も可(代名詞なら track it down)。
- No, of course not. I'll hear you out, though.
- Just hear me out before you decide.
Hear me out.
- If you don't cut that out, I'll beat you to a pulp.
- He threatened to beat me to a pulp.
- I've got a grudge against Dobu, too.
- He still holds a grudge against his old boss.
hold / bear / have a grudge against ~ と組み、hold a grudge がいちばんよく使われます。
09
be desperate for recognition
- He's only famous for being a coward who's desperate for recognition.
- The whole campaign felt desperate for recognition.
- He thinks I'll be there to help him pull it off.
- I didn't think they'd pull it off.
代名詞は off の前(pull it off)。

🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
PATTERN 1
Suppose +
Suppose I'm in Roppongi and I get completely plastered.
- Suppose we miss the deadline.
- Suppose you're right. It still doesn't help.(仮に君が正しいとしても、助けにはならない)
PATTERN 2
What would you say if + 主語 + could + 動詞の原形?(〜できるとしたら、どうする?)
What would you say if I could give you a chance to catch Dobu?
Do you want ~? What would you say if ~? How would you feel if ~?
- What would you say if we moved it to Friday?(金曜に動かすとしたら、どうですか)
- What would you say if I could get you a seat?(席を用意できるとしたら、どうします)
PATTERN 3
It could be as simple as + 動詞ing(案外〜というだけかもしれない)
It could be as simple as Dobu buying off a cop to make his job in life easier.
It could be as simple as ~ は「もっと単純な線がある」——相手の深読みをほどく働きをします。as simple as のうしろは名詞か ~ingで、意味上の主語を前に置ける(as simple as Dobu buying ~)のがこの型の肝。
- It could be as simple as changing the title.(案外、題名を変えるだけかもしれない)
- It could be as simple as them forgetting.(単に忘れていただけかもしれない)
🎯 Today's Phrase
Native daily-use phrase
★ TODAY'S PHRASE
hear ~ out
- Just hear me out before you decide.
- I'll hear you out, but I'm not promising anything.
- He never hears anyone out.
Hear me out. 目的語は必ず out の前(× hear out me)。
