Episode Summary

Odokawa goes looking for the student who has been hunting Dobu online, and ends up in a long argument with a young officer about what evil is and whether his own twin brother might be part of it.

01

blend in

  • Was it my build or am I not blending in?
  • He never blends in at parties.

blend in with ~ で溶け込む先を言い(blend in with the crowd)、色や味の「混ざる」にも同じ語を使います。

02

spot ~ in a crowd

  • I told you, I'm really good at spotting people in a crowd.
  • I could spot her in a crowd anywhere.

be good at spotting ~ の形で「〜を見つけるのが得意」。

03

not really have a choice

  • Oh, it's humiliating, but I don't really have a choice, do I?
  • I don't really have a choice at this point.

really を入れると和らぎ、do I? have no choice but to + 動詞の原形(〜するしかない)が硬い言い方です。

04

be sick of ~

  • I'm sick of stereotypes.
  • I'm sick of hearing about it.

be tired of ~ より強く、be sick and tired of ~ ならさらに強調されます。

05

make things right

  • All I was saying was you better make things right.
  • I want to make things right with her.

make it right とも言い、with ~ で相手を添えられます。

06

lose sleep

  • Our altercation was gonna make me lose sleep.
  • Don't lose sleep over it.

Don't lose sleep over it.(気に病むなよ)がいちばんよく使う形で、over ~ で原因を言います。

07

pull ahead of ~

  • By Christmas, you'll pull ahead of everyone appearing here today.
  • They pulled ahead of us in the last quarter.

08

get carried away

  • You really did let yourself get carried away.
  • Sorry, I got carried away.

Sorry, I got carried away.

09

too ashamed to ~

  • You're not too ashamed to dress like that.
  • He was too ashamed to ask for help.

(You're not too ashamed to ~=よく平気でできるな)、作中もその使い方です。

10

lose one's mind

  • That's Halloween for you. People lose their minds.
  • The crowd lost their minds when she appeared.

Have you lost your mind? go out of one's mind

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

Mind if I take a look around your place?

Do you mind if I ~? Can I ~? No, not at all.

PATTERN 2

It's one's fault for + 動詞ing(〜したのが悪い)

It's your fault for riding a scooter into a crowded area like this.

You should have ~ が助言の形なのに対し、It's your fault for ~ing for のうしろは ~ing(× for to ride)。my fault にすれば自分の非を認める形になり、そちらは日常でよく使います——It's my fault for not checking.

PATTERN 3

I could spot her in a crowded hall. Even if she changes her makeup.

(Even though she changed it=実際に変えた)。

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

blend in

blend in with ~ で溶け込む先を言えます(blend in with the crowd=人ごみに紛れる)。 The extension blends in with the old house. 反対は stand out(目立つ)。
