Episode Summary

Subaru wakes scarred but alive, and learns the price: the maid who carried him out spent everything she had. Then the girl in the library gives him a deadline — the bites left curses stacked too deep to untangle, and he has half a day. He decides not to spend it giving up. With the older sister he walks back into the forest, hears why the demon clan has no use for twins, and turns the one thing that makes him prey into a plan: be the bait.

🔥 Must-Know Expressions 10 expressions |

01

just barely

  • They managed to save my life but just barely.
  • We made the last train, just barely.

02

for the most part

  • Well, at least for the most part.
  • For the most part, the plan worked.

03

be in awful shape

  • And she was in awful shape.
  • The car was in awful shape after the winter.

04

No need to worry.

  • No need to worry. We took care of it.
  • No need to worry — it's already booked.

Don't worry. が相手を止めるのに対し、No need to worry. There's no need to worry.

05

freshly made

  • It's freshly made.
  • The bread is freshly made every morning.

06

You're welcome to ~

  • You're welcome to have another one.
  • You're welcome to stay as long as you like.

You can ~ が許可なのに対し、You're welcome to ~ は「歓迎する」——温かさが加わるのが違い。

07

Gotcha.

  • Gotcha. Can I ask why this one can't be removed?
  • Gotcha — I'll send it over.

I understand. I've got you の縮んだ形。

08

be headed

  • Where are you headed?
  • We're headed to the station.

Where are you headed? はWhere are you going?

09

That was close.

  • Man, that was close.
  • That was close — one more second and we'd have missed it.

I was scared. が気持ちなのに対し、That was close.

10

have the guts to ~

  • I didn't have the guts to take that last step!
  • She had the guts to say it out loud.

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

Is it because ~?(〜だからなの?)

Is it because you seem like such a weakling?

Why is that? が理由をたずねるのに対し、Is it because ~? Is it because of + 名詞?

PATTERN 2

wouldn't that make ~ …?(それなら〜も…

Wait a second. You're twins, right? If she is a demon, wouldn't that make you a demon, too?

So you're a demon? が決めつけるのに対し、wouldn't that make ~ …?

PATTERN 3

Doesn't that seem ~?(それって〜に思えない?)

A hit to that one little spot? Doesn't that seem impossible?

That's impossible.

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

That was close.

I was scared. 名詞にした a close call は「危機一髪」——That was a close call. 紛らわしいのがThat was lucky.。
