Episode Summary

The episode belongs to the blue-haired maid. We see the childhood behind her: a clan that kills twins, a sister everyone called a prodigy, and the night that cost that sister her horn. Ever since, she has lived as a stand-in for the person she thinks she should have been. Cornered in the forest, she tries to settle it alone — and is talked out of it by someone who insists that a replacement is not what she is, and that the point of tomorrow is that you get to talk about it.

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

Why couldn't it have been ~?(どうして〜ではなかったのか)

Why was I the only one between us that kept her horn? Why couldn't it have been her?

I wish it had been ~ が願いなのに対し、Why couldn't it have been ~?

PATTERN 2

if I were in your place(私があなたの立場なら)

So I did what would have made me the happiest if I were in your place.

I understand.

PATTERN 3

All you have to do is + 動詞の原形(〜しさえすればいい)

All you have to do is be the horn your sister doesn't have.

All you have to do is ~ は「それだけでいい」——相手の負担を軽く見せるのが違い。 (All you have to do is wait.)。

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

put ~ on a pedestal

knock ~ off their pedestal(引きずり下ろす)という対の言い方もあります。紛らわしいのがlook up to ~。

見出しはmeasure up / make amends / be inferior to ~ / put ~ on a pedestal / acknowledge and accept ~ のように、自分と他人を比べる言い回しを中心に据えました。

Why couldn't it have been ~?(どうして〜ではなかったのか)、if I were in your place(私があなたの立場なら)、All you have to do is + 動詞の原形(〜しさえすればいい)——答えのない問いを投げる・置き換えて考える・ひとつに絞る型が並んでいます。

be torn to shreds / lose heart / an ace up one's sleeve
