Episode Summary
The trial sends him home: a mountain of peas at breakfast, a father who wrestles him awake, a mother who hates the same foods he does. Nobody asks why he stopped going to school until he asks them to. What he gets back is not a lecture but a walk by the river, a joke, and two people telling him to do his best in his own way — and then it is time to say the goodbye he never got to say.

🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
PATTERN 1
What matters isn't ~.
What matters isn't how you start or what happens in the middle. It's all in how it ends.
What matters isn't ~. It's …
- What matters isn't the price. It's who maintains it.(大事なのは値段ではなく、誰が保守するかです)
- What matters isn't speed. It's that nothing gets lost.(大事なのは速さではなく、何も失われないことです)
PATTERN 2
Who would ditch their own kid just because he retreated into his shell, huh?!
Nobody would ~ が断定なのに対し、Who would ~?
- Who would turn that down?(誰がそれを断るというんだ)
- Who would notice at this hour?(こんな時間に誰が気づくというの)
PATTERN 3
It's up to 人 to + 動詞の原形(〜するかどうかは人次第だ)
It's up to him to deal with this on his own now.
It's up to you.
- It's up to the team to decide the order.(順番を決めるのはチーム次第です)
- It's up to you to say when.(いつにするかはあなたが決めてください)
🎯 Today's Phrase
Native daily-use phrase
★ TODAY'S PHRASE
beat around the bush
- Stop beating around the bush, okay? Come out and ask me.
- Don't beat around the bush — just tell me the number.
- He beat around the bush for ten minutes.
やめてほしいと促す形で使うのがほとんどです——Stop beating around the bush.(回りくどいのはやめて)aroundはイギリスでは about になることもあり、beat about the bush も同じ意味。紛らわしいのがget to the point。
