Episode Summary
The witch explains what his power is for, and what it will never do: it keeps him alive, and counts nobody else. Then he asks to meet the one who built the thing that is eating the Sanctuary, and gets three witches instead of one — a child who measures sin by pain, a furious healer who shouts while she mends him, and finally the one with the answer he came for, delivered as if it were obvious.

🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
PATTERN 1
Vexing as it may be, ~(腹立たしいことではあるが〜)
Vexing as it may be, the power that lets you Return by Death is the witch's intense delusion.
Although it's annoying, ~ が譲歩なのに対し、形容詞 + as it may be, ~ は倒置の譲歩——文語の格が一段上がるのが違い。 Strange as it may seem, ~(妙に思えるかもしれませんが) も同じ作りです。
- Odd as it may be, the old way is faster.(妙な話ですが、昔のやり方のほうが速いのです)
- Costly as it may be, it's the safest option.(高くつきはしますが、いちばん安全な手です)
PATTERN 2
Don't you think it's a bit 形容詞 to + 動詞の原形 ~?(〜するのは少し〜ではありませんか)
Don't you think it's a bit selfish to try and eat another without considering that the predator might become the prey?
That's selfish. Don't you think it's a bit ~?
- Don't you think it's a bit early to decide?(決めるには少し早くありませんか)
- Don't you think it's a bit much to ask?(それは少し頼みすぎではありませんか)
PATTERN 3

If you think a human is capable of such an act, then go ahead and try it.
You can't do it. be capable of + 名詞 / -ing で「〜する力がある」。

- Go ahead and ask — she'll say the same thing.(どうぞ聞いてみてください。
🎯 Today's Phrase
Native daily-use phrase
★ TODAY'S PHRASE
at the expense of ~
- However, if you manage to change its path at the expense of too many sacrifices..
- They cut the price at the expense of quality.
- He got the job done at the expense of his weekend.
a joke at his expense(彼をだしにした冗談)紛らわしいのがat the cost of ~。
