  • I'll come through this trial in one piece, and after that, we'll sit down and talk things over.
  • The parcel came through the trip in one piece.

survive が生き残りなのに対し、come through ~ in one piece は無傷さ——形が保たれているのが違い。

02

have a tendency to ~

  • Miss Fortuna has a tendency to be quite harsh on herself.
  • I have a tendency to say yes too quickly.

03

earn the respect of ~

  • I want to earn the respect of each of them.
  • She earned the respect of the whole team that year.

be respected が状態なのに対し、earn the respect of ~ は獲得——自分で稼いだのが違い。

04

have high hopes for ~

  • We're far from being the only ones who have high hopes for your success.
  • They have high hopes for the new shop.

05

bear witness

  • So, please, let us bear witness.
  • We came to bear witness, nothing more.

  • Your homeland is frozen, and you're persecuted by people from the outside.
  • They were persecuted by their own neighbours.

07

a preferable alternative

  • Does living here not seem a preferable alternative?
  • Waiting a week is a preferable alternative.

  • I'll see this through, whatever happens.

代名詞は間に入ります——see it through。see ~ partway(中途で終える)がちょうど反対になります。

10

  • Regardless, you have now heard where we stand on the matter.
  • Let me tell you where we stand on the matter.

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

Seeing you continue to wish for that other world pains me greatly.

PATTERN 2

it seems safe to assume ~(〜と見てよいでしょう)

Since you have emerged again, it seems safe to assume you have overcome the second trial.

I think ~ が意見なのに対し、it seems safe to assume ~ は安全な推定——外れにくいと言っているのが違い。

PATTERN 3

There's nothing 主語 can ~ that would ...(〜しても…

I assure you, there's nothing you can say that would offend me.

Don't worry about it. が気づかいなのに対し、There's nothing 主語 can ~ that would ...

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

come through ~ in one piece
