🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
PATTERN 1
Am I the only one who ~?(〜なのは自分だけか)
Prove to me that I'm not the only one in this city who doesn't know when to give up! Or, am I the only one?
Does anyone else ~? Am I the only one who ~? who のあとは三人称単数の動詞——the only one who thinks / who feels。
- Am I the only one who finds this odd?(これを変だと思うのは私だけ?)
- Am I the only one who hasn't seen it?(見ていないのは私だけですか)
PATTERN 2
I'm not saying to + 動詞の原形(〜しろと言っているのではない)
Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying to grab weapons and start swinging.
- I'm not saying to cancel it, just to postpone it.(中止しろではなく、延期をと言っています)
- I'm not saying to trust him blindly.(やみくもに信じろという話ではありません)
PATTERN 3
I can't afford to keep throwing in the towel.
don't want to ~ が気持ちなのに対し、can't afford to ~ は事情——やれば損が出るのが違い。
- We can't afford to lose another day.(もう一日も無駄にできません)
- I can't afford to get this wrong.(これを間違える余裕はありません)
🎯 Today's Phrase
Native daily-use phrase
★ TODAY'S PHRASE
get one's hopes up
- Now I don't wanna get your hopes up.
- Don't get your hopes up — nothing is confirmed.
- I got my hopes up and then they cancelled.
Don't get your hopes up.(あまり期待しないでね)。 自分についても、そのまま使えます——I got my hopes up and then they cancelled.(期待してたのに、中止になっちゃって)。 I don't wanna get your hopes up, but ~ と続ければ、良い知らせを控えめに切り出せます。

見出しはget one's hopes up / make eye contact / take someone's hand / isolate oneself / lift up one's head のように、人に届く短い言い回しを中心に据えました。
