🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

I must ask that you never + 動詞の原形(〜しないでいただきたい)

I must ask that you never tell Reinhard of this.

Don't tell him. I must ask that you never ~ は懇請のかたち——立てた言い方なのに、むしろ重いのが違い。

PATTERN 2

Broadly speaking, …(大まかに言えば)

Broadly speaking, your description's accurate.

PATTERN 3

as hard as it is to admit, …(認めたくはないが)

That said, as hard as it is to admit, we really need his strength.

Although I don't like it が好みの話なのに対し、as hard as it is to admit は認めるのが苦しい——渋々であることまで伝わるのが違い。as + 形容詞 + as it is で「〜ではあるが」という譲歩。

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

take up the slack

for me / for her と前置詞 for を添えれば、誰の分かまで言えます。紛らわしいのがpick up the slack。

見出しはtake up the slack / fall short / let ~ slide / be wary of ~ / grapple with ~ のように、手の足り方と警戒の言い回しを中心に据えました。

I must ask that you never + 動詞の原形(〜しないでいただきたい)、Broadly speaking, …(大まかに言えば)、as hard as it is to admit, …(認めたくはないが)——禁じる・粗く括る・渋々認める型が並んでいます。I must ask that ~ の that 節は原形のままに置くのが要点です。

fixate on ~ / be lost on ~ / I have no desire to ~ まで扱う、リゼロ第58話「いつか好きになる人」の上級版です。
