Episode Summary

This time Subaru starts with a plan: earn the household's trust, and find the shaman. He gets a magic lesson from the cat spirit and discovers his one usable spell, hears the legend of the Witch of Envy, and works himself past the point of sense trying to be useful. When it finally breaks him, he cries himself out in the half-elf's lap and wakes lighter. Then the girl in the library gives him the one rule that matters: a curse needs physical contact — which means the answer is in the village.

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

第8話の実際のセリフから、中級で押さえたい文法を3つ。

PATTERN 1

Why don't we just + 動詞の原形 ~ instead?(いっそ〜しない?)

Then why don't we just go today instead?

いま出ている案を置いて、別の案をすすめる形です。Let's go today. が言い切るのに対し、Why don't we just ~ instead? は相手に選ばせる——押しつけにならないのが違い。just が「いっそ」instead が「その代わりに」を担います。Why don't we ~? は疑問の形をした提案なので、Yes / No で答えるとは限りません

他にも使える例:

PATTERN 2

気軽に、試すことをすすめる形です。Would you like to ~? がていねいなのに対し、Do you wanna try ~? はくだけた誘い——やらなくてもいいという軽さが違い。wanna は want to のくだけた形で、書くときは want to に戻します。try のうしろは名詞か動詞ing(try skiing)。

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use phrase

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

Way to go.

⭐ 初日の働きぶりを、自分で自分にかけた掛け声。その進み方でいい——という形です。Well done. が改まってほめるのに対し、Way to go. はその場で放る掛け声——うまくいった瞬間に飛び出すところまで含みます。だから、あとから振り返ってほめるのには向きません——いま起きたことへの反応です。the way to go(進むべき道)から来ていて、That's the way to go. を縮めた形。自分に言えば「よし」という自賛にもなり、この場面もそちらです。気をつけたいのは皮肉に使えてしまうところ——失敗した相手に Way to go. と言うと「よくやってくれたな」という嫌みになります。紛らわしいのがGood for you.。こちらは「よかったね」相手の身に起きたことを喜ぶ——やったことをほめるのが Way to go.、起きたことを喜ぶのが Good for you. と分けると混ざりません。
