Episode Summary
The last night of the cruise opens with fireworks and closes with the deck cleared. Between the two, a bodyguard who has spent the whole voyage asking why she does this work finally answers herself. Then the episode turns around completely: a young man in the secret police catches a cold at his desk, and remembers his sister climbing a mountain, fighting a boar and annoying a hive of bees to bring him herbal tea.
I must've caught a cold. / make ~ feel better / I'll be fine.

10 expressions |

- How can she be excited about the same thing over and over again?
- He watched the same clip over and over again.
many times が回数なのに対し、over and over again は飽きるほど——気持ちが乗るのが違い。
02
I must've caught a cold.
- I think I must've caught a cold.
- I must've caught a cold on the train.
I have a cold. I must've caught a cold. 風邪は catch(つかまえる)で言います。
- Anytime my sister's not around, it's like my immune system takes a nosedive.
- Sales took a nosedive in March.
04
Do you mind picking up ~?
- Do you mind picking up some herbal tea?
- Do you mind picking up milk on the way home?
Can you buy ~? が直球なのに対し、Do you mind ~ing?
- It reminds me of what my sister used to make whenever I got sick.
- This song reminds me of high school.
- I went and picked a bunch of things that'll make you feel way better!
- A hot bath will make you feel better.
make 人 + 動詞の原形 の形なのでto は入りません(× make you to feel)。

- I'm super lucky I get to be your little brother.
- I'm super lucky I get to work with her.

- I always want you to be happy and healthy.
- We just want the kids happy and healthy.
09
I really appreciate it.
- I really appreciate it.
- You didn't have to — I really appreciate it.
Thanks. が軽いのに対し、I really appreciate it. it を落とせません(× I appreciate)。appreciate は人を目的語に取らないので× I appreciate you for …
- I just kinda made some bees angry at me. I'll be fine.
- Go on ahead — I'll be fine.
I'm fine. が今の状態なのに対し、I'll be fine. You'll be fine.

🎯 Grammar Patterns
3 patterns
PATTERN 1
Some people say to + 動詞の原形(〜するといいと言う人もいる)
Some people say to wrap a green onion around your neck.
You should ~ が助言なのに対し、Some people say to ~ は伝聞——自分は請け合わないのが違い。
- Some people say to soak it overnight.(一晩つけておくといい、と言う人もいます)
- Some people say to call first.(先に電話したほうがいい、と言う人もいます)
PATTERN 2
You do know ~, right?(〜って分かってるよね?)
You do know this stuff is supposed to be nasty, right?
Do you know ~? が質問なのに対し、You do know ~, right?
- You do know it's due today, right?(今日締め切りだって分かってるよね)
- You do know she's joking, right?(冗談だって分かってるよね)
PATTERN 3
There's so much ~ going on that 主語 can't even + 動詞の原形(〜が多すぎて…
There's so much going on in my body right now that I can't even think about having a cold anymore!
very busy が程度なのに対し、so ~ that …
- There's so much noise going on that I can't even hear you.(うるさすぎて声も聞こえません)
- There's so much going on that I can't even plan next week.(立て込みすぎて来週の予定も立てられません)
🎯 Today's Phrase
Native daily-use expression
★ TODAY'S PHRASE
I'm super lucky I get to ~
- I'm super lucky I get to be your little brother.
- I'm super lucky I get to work with her.
- I'm super lucky I get to see this every morning.
だから、仕事にも家族にもそのまま使えます——I'm super lucky I get to work with her.super は very のくだけた形で、書くときは really に替えると落ち着きます。紛らわしいのがI'm lucky to ~。

I must've caught a cold. / Do you mind picking up ~? / make ~ feel better / happy and healthy / I'll be fine.
Some people say to + 動詞の原形(〜するといいと言う人もいる)、You do know ~, right?(〜って分かってるよね?)、There's so much ~ going on that 主語 can't even + 動詞の原形——伝聞で出す・念を押す・度を超したと言う型が並んでいます。
