wander off

  • There you are! You shouldn't wander off!

02

03

make me wanna ~

  • The fireworks show made me wanna play some more!
  • That smell makes me wanna eat.

04

I do wish ~

  • Although I do wish Yor had been up there with us.
  • I do wish we'd booked earlier.

I wish ~ が願望なのに対し、I do wish ~ は do で押している——気持ちが強いのが違い。

05

It couldn't hurt to check.

  • Maybe it couldn't hurt to check.
  • It couldn't hurt to check the schedule again.

You should check. It couldn't hurt to ~ は損得の話——押しつけないのが違い。 It wouldn't hurt to ~ でもほぼ同じです。

07

We're all set.

  • Okay. We're all set.

09

Where do I even start?

  • I'm the one responsible for searching the lower decks, but where do I even start?
  • The room's a mess — where do I even start?

🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

PATTERN 1

I saw 人 + 動詞ing(〜しているのを見た)

Earlier, I saw some old guy messing around with the clock over there.

PATTERN 2

I'm sorry we weren't able to + 動詞の原形(〜できず申し訳ありません)

I'm sorry we weren't able to find her.

I'm sorry we didn't ~ が「しなかった」のに対し、weren't able to ~ は「できなかった」——力が及ばなかったと示すのが違い。

PATTERN 3

What would you like to + 動詞の原形?(何をなさいますか)

Okay! Now, Anya, what would you like to do?

What do you want to ~? What would you like to ~?

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use expression

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

Where do I even start?

What should I do? Where do I even start? 鍵は even。 だから、片づけ・引き継ぎ・仕事量の話にぴったり——The room's a mess — where do I even start? 紛らわしいのがWhere should I start?。 Where do I even start?、相談が Where should I start?

見出しはwander off / Just promise me you'll ~ / It couldn't hurt to check. / We're all set. / Where do I even start?

I saw 人 + 動詞ing(〜しているのを見た)、I'm sorry we weren't able to + 動詞の原形(〜できず申し訳ありません)、What would you like to + 動詞の原形?(何をなさいますか)——報告する・詫びる・希望を聞く型が並んでいます。
