Episode Summary
Four students are given a Stella each for how they behaved on the bus, the school turns down every interview request, and the staff quietly admit that the parents' briefing did not go well. At school the girl who asked the hijackers for snacks becomes, for one morning, the most popular person in the year — which lasts exactly as long as it takes her to start arguing with the boy she rescued.

表現strength of character人格の強さ
💡 strength of character は「人格的な強さ・芯の強さ」。表彰や推薦状で好まれるフォーマルな褒め言葉です。
例文
It takes real strength of character to admit you were wrong.
自分の誤りを認めるには本当の芯の強さがいる。
State Security doesn’t want kids stealing all their thunder.
訳国家保安局は、子どもに手柄を全部持っていかれたくないのさ。
表現steal ~'s thunder〜の手柄を横取りする
💡 steal one's thunder は「〜の見せ場・手柄を奪う」。演劇の雷鳴効果を盗まれたという逸話が語源とされます。
例文
She announced her engagement at my party and stole my thunder.
彼女は私のパーティーで婚約発表をして主役を奪った。
I daresay it’s miraculous.
訳まさに奇跡と言ってよいでしょう。
表現I daresay ~あえて言えば〜だろう
💡 I daresay は「おそらく〜だろう・あえて言えば」。イギリス英語寄りの古風で上品な言い方で、執事や年配の紳士のせりふにぴったりです。

きっとショーを楽しめると思いますよ。
You children were thrown into an extremely dangerous situation, and through it all, you emerged unscathed.
訳君たちは極めて危険な状況に置かれながら、無事に乗り越えたのです。
表現emerge unscathed無傷で切り抜ける
💡 unscathed は「無傷の」。emerge unscathed で「（困難を）無傷で切り抜ける」。危機・不祥事の文脈でよく使います。
例文
Somehow the company emerged unscathed from the scandal.
どういうわけか、その会社はスキャンダルから無傷で抜け出した。
Well then, we can lift the information blackout.
訳では、情報統制を解除してよいでしょう。
表現lift the information blackout報道規制を解く
💡 blackout は「停電」のほか「（情報の）遮断」。lift は規制や禁止を「解除する」動詞として定番です。
例文
The government finally lifted the media blackout.

It’s a relief to see her act her age.
訳あの子が年相応にふるまうのを見ると安心する。
表現act one's age年相応にふるまう
💡 act one's age は「年相応にふるまう」。大人に言うと「大人げない」という叱責、子どもに言うと「子どもらしい」安心にもなります。

💡 touching は「心を打つ」。a touching reunion は「感動の再会」の定番コロケーションです。

訳家でみんなそろったら、あの子の好物を作って埋め合わせしよう。
表現make up for it埋め合わせをする
💡 make up for ~ は「〜の埋め合わせをする」。by ~ing を添えると何で埋め合わせるかまで言えます。
例文
Sorry I missed your birthday. I'll make up for it.
誕生日に行けなくてごめん。埋め合わせするよ。
She seems fine from what I can observe, but that ordeal must be weighing on her.
訳見たところ平気そうだが、あの出来事は重くのしかかっているはずだ。
表現weigh on ~〜に重くのしかかる
💡 weigh on ~ は「（心に）重くのしかかる」。be weighing on one's mind の形でもよく使われます。
例文
The decision has been weighing on me all week.
その決断が一週間ずっと気にかかっている。

訳ですが、保護者も生徒も動揺するのは当然です。
表現have every right to ~〜するのも当然だ
💡 have every right to ~ は「〜する正当な権利がある」＝「〜して当然」。相手の感情を認めるときに便利です。

〈上級〉速やかな解決・安全上の懸念から・追加の事情聴取——場面を運ぶ言い回しを5個。Must-Know とは別枠の実用表現です。

詳しい事情は知らないが、すべて片づいたなら俺は帰る。
the whole story は「事の全容」。I don't know the whole story, but ~ は判断を控えめに示す前置きです。
他にも使える例：
In order to ~, we cannot …（〜するためには…してはならない）I understand, but in order to support them, we cannot neglect our own well-being.
わかります。でも、子どもたちを支えるためには、私たち自身の心身をおろそかにはできません。
in order to ~（〜するために）とcannot ~ を組み合わせ、前提条件を論理的に示す型です。
他にも使える例：
With ~ in attendance, …（〜が同席していたので、…）With the State Security Service in attendance, we didn't feel as though we could speak all that freely.
国家保安局が同席していたので、自由に話せる雰囲気ではありませんでした。
with + 名詞 + 状態 は付帯状況。in attendance（出席して）は会議・式典のフォーマルな表現です。
