🎯 Grammar Patterns 3 patterns

第48話の実際のセリフから、中級で押さえたい文法を3つ。

PATTERN 1

Perhaps you would care to + 動詞の原形?(よろしければ〜なさいませんか)

Perhaps you would care to join us at the zoo?

断りやすいように、うんと丁寧に誘う形です。Do you want to ~? が普通の誘いなのに対し、Perhaps you would care to ~? は上品——押しつけがましさが消えるのが違い。care to + 動詞の原形は「〜したいと思う」という古風な言い方で、Perhaps を頭に置くとさらに柔らかくなります。

他にも使える例:

PATTERN 2

How can you choose to + 動詞の原形?(どうして〜なんてできるの)

How can you choose to abandon your family on your day off?

やり方そのものを責める形です。Why are you going? が理由なのに対し、How can you choose to ~? は非難——答えを求めていないのが違い。choose to を挟むことで「自分で選んだのだろう」というとがめる調子が出ます。

他にも使える例:

PATTERN 3

🎯 Today's Phrase Native daily-use expression

★ TODAY'S PHRASE

blow one's cover

Don't blow my cover.

見出しはblow one's cover / I'll just be blunt and ask. / You've got the wrong idea. / Let me handle this. / sober up のように、家のなかで飛びかう言い方を中心に据えました。語彙は fuzzy / stationed / summoned / stall / risky のようなすれ違いと段取りの語で揃えています。

この回でとくに効くのは、相手に踏みこむ英語です。Perhaps you would care to + 動詞の原形?(よろしければ〜なさいませんか)、How can you choose to + 動詞の原形?、So you're not curious about ~?——丁寧に誘う・とがめる・水を向ける型が並んでいます。

上級版は同じ回の後半WISE のブリーフィングと裏切り者あぶり出しを扱っているので、二つの記事で重なりがありません。総合難易度:★★★☆☆/おすすめ度:★★★★★。スパイファミリー第48話の中級版です。
